It usually starts before 5. Sometimes, as early as 3:30. What you see on TV, brokers walking clients through completely updated, beautiful houses, that isn’t the 5 to 7 pm drill.
From 5 to 7 we are on the phone, and then on the phone some more. And then on the phone some more. It isn’t uncommon to be working two phone lines, email and texts all simultaneously. We are talking to other brokers, lenders, title companies, inspectors, the handyman, photographer, the drone video guy, the brokers who work under us and our clients.
We have to find out what has been accomplished by the end of the day. Were there any new surprises? Did everyone do what they said they would do? What deadlines need to be re-negotiated? Deals are made and amended.
A brokers skill at the 5 to 7 pm drill and credibility with other brokers is crucial.
It is now 7:11 pm. I think I’m done with the drill for tonight, but one phone call could get it all spun up again.
This is the part of the job you don’t see on TV. They don’t teach anything about it in real estate school.
But unless you are really good at the 5 to 7 drill, you will join the overwhelming majority of agents who drop out of the business.
Ever wonder what your broker is doing for you? Come sit in on the 5 to 7 pm drill and you won’t wonder anymore.
You will marvel that we pull this off night after night, year after year.
