My Last Day in Minneapolis Before Coming Home to Sacramento

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Gold DRE #00697006

When we took my brother to the U of M for his chemo infusion, we left so early in the morning that I did not want to bother with putting on makeup. Just getting dressed and out in the rain was a major accomplishment. I also figured that just in case we cried, I didn't want black splotchiness dripping down my face. You've got to consider these things in advance, like with anything. I didn't cry, though. We were joking too much to cry.

And I usually would not publish a photo of myself without makeup because I don't look like myself, or at least not the person I want other people to remember me by, which is much prettier than reality. But also, when you get to be as old as me, well, I think you get to a point where you don't really care about how you appear to anybody else anymore. I mean, as long as other people aren't made to run screaming from the room, that is.

This is my last blog about this situation, as I am back home in Sacramento today. You can read more about this and see the photo of my family at this link: Family Visit With My Brother at Curran's in Minneapolis.

Every family has a tale, Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents ... you're not alone.  I agree with Beth Atalay above.  The fact that you made this trip (not an easy one) says alot about your beauty.  The kind that matters.

You're in my thoughts ... as well as your brother,

Gene

Yes, but some families are more over the top than others, I imagine. I just wish I could help them more.

I suppose that watching my grandfather die of cancer over a two year battle in the 70s shaped who I am in the compassion department. I never really had thought about it, but I was 11 when he died.  And I can remember my mom telling me not to sit on his lap because it was painful for him, but him pulling me close to sit on the arm of the chair and letting my rest my head on him on Sunday before he died on Monday.

And I can't remember what year I stopped wearing make up, but it was at least 20 years ago.

My warmest thoughts and prayers will continue to be with your family.  Is the photo your sister or sister in law?

My sister-in-law did not invite anybody to her house or welcome us or call us, so we didn't intrude on her. That photos is my sister.

I would not wear makeup except for the fact I don't particularly like what I see when I look in the mirror. If I could just get over THAT . . . I'm one of those women who looks so much BETTER with than without.

I think your brother has the right idea.  Best to let it go.  You got to spend time with him now and that's all that matters.  You can't go back and change things and it could have been something so tiny that started the rift, he may have forgotten.

When life gives us opportunities to mend relationships, what we do shows what kind of people we are.  You are a good person.  Forgiving.  That's what matters.  And just look at that crew of siblings.  A moment to cherish.

He most likely has different reasons for not talking to me than he did with my sister as the timeframes were much broader. I just wish I knew what it was. I can't help it. I am glad that we connected on this trip and that I went.

Hi Elizabeth.  That is a tough ending with your brother.  So many issues unresolved.

Yes unresolved stuff but the unresolved stuff is also resolved because we still love each other and have expressed it. Bottom line, I can yelp about it, but I got something I did not have before.

Elizabeth, I'm glad you went and spent the time with your brother, painful as it probably was. Families are definitely complicated--you're not alone in that compartment.

Wishing you well and your brother peace.

If you must know, you should tell him his dying gift to you would be to know.  But if he tells you, you just have to listen and not respond.
