In real estate no two days are ever the same! Each client and home brings a new story and something to learn from. If anyone knows this best it’s the agents in the business, learning something new from each experience. Some lessons are so valuable that they will use them for the rest of their careers and some so entertaining they’ll be laughing about it for years to come. This one, from our Bozeman real estate agent Melissa Ross, is definitely on the entertaining side…but still a valuable lesson!
What I learned in real estate this week…
"I have learned it is always important to arrive well ahead of your clients if you are meeting them at a listing for a showing. This was recently reinforced for me when I arrived 15 minutes early at a condo that is currently occupied by a tenant. I walked into the unit with intention of familiarizing myself with the layout and turn some lights on before my clients arrived. As soon as I opened the door the strong, unmistakable smell of marijuana (being used for medicinal reasons I presume)…startled my senses. I quickly scrambled to open windows and doors to rid the odor from the home before my client’s arrival! Would the presence of pot in the home deter my potential client from making an offer? Probably not, but it certainly wouldn’t have given the best first impression. Thankfully, in this case the tenant was smart enough to hide their stash and the smell was pretty much gone by the time my clients arrived."
Lesson learned…Always arrive early and check out the property pre-showing if possible. If not and you and your client walk into a situation like this together, hopefully you all can laugh it off and have a funny story to share with friends!
