Are You Using or Wasting Your Mind?

By
Real Estate Agent with HomeSmart

Several times a day I am working to be sure I keep on track and am using my mind and not wasting it.

Maybe a great way to be sure you are accomplishing everything possible, and no chance of wasting away your mind and not occupying it proactively hour after hour, except for short breaks would be to meet up weekly or every two weeks, with someone you feel is a little sharper than you are.

Having a mentor, or a coach, and this can be done without having to pay someone money. There are times when you may pay for professional services, and then there are times when you can trade or exchange favor for favor.

By no means am I a cheap escape, nor am I asking you to be, but if you follow Dave Ramsey you understand it is important to watch how you spend your money.

Sometimes if you are like myself, you may be fortunate, as I have my Toastmaster mentor is very knowledgeable in other areas of life.

This week is especially a time to really watch to not be wasting time, yes take time to be thankful, to break bread with family and friends on Thanksgiving, and remember there are five other days left in this week outside of Thanksgiving itself so maybe at least three to four of these days this week you can devote 12 or more hours to productivity, positively, reading, preparing for next week and month.

When you catch all most every foot ball game, you can still back away from that television for using your mind for what God gave it to you for.

It's also important to take a break from the usual routine to now and then.

Dan,

I like your basic premise to meet up with someone smarter than yourself periodically. In my case, there are so many of them out there.

Great advice, Dan.  Having a mentor(s) and being accountable is priceless.  As for the holiday, any holiday for that matter, turning into a celebration that lasts longer than 24 hours, these next several weeks can slip away with very little work productivity if we are not careful!

My circle of friends for quite some time was mainly my employees.  They are intelligent and hard working, but I lacked the friends that can be considered a coach or mentor.  I really craved business friends with similar goals.  I have made a goal to reach out to similar minded people for small amounts of their time.  I am happier now.  Your article is a very good reminder.

I have a couple of connections that I value deeply. They're inspiring, challenging, and help me grow. I also start each morning with one or two readings from a couple of different Bible plans. But if there's a Packers game on, that gets my full attention. Go Pack!!

Great blog, Dan.  I saw it as a reblog on Bob Crane's blog.

Hanging out with people just a little sharper is a great idea.  I remember being told if I want to learn to ski, I need to ski with people that are better than me.

You are so right about being able to have a mentor / coach without spending any money.  At the very least, an accountability buddy is a necessity... especially for newbies.
