Did You See The Hunger Games?
This weekend the latest installment of the Hunger Games was
released.
Of course, we had to go.
My wife likes the action. I like the heroine, a beautiful young girl.
But beyond that there is the story. It is based in the North American
continent, sometime in the future.
We have been divided into "districts" for ease of Federal
administration.
The people aren't happy. They have very little freedom to do what they
want, and they are under-fed.
And to top it off, it is against the law to hunt for your own food.
Well, some may be intimidated by this but not our heroine. She is a
crack shot with her bow and arrow. Every bit as good as Robin Hood
was. For the very same reason.
The government knows that there are "revolutionary" currents within
the districts. So to dull these tendencies the government came up with
a great idea. They would sponsor a contest between the districts each
year to satisfy their "blood lust." The government selected two young
people from each district who would come to the capitol where they
would compete in a "hunt" for each other in a large enclosed wooded
area. They would fight to the death. Only the winner was allowed to
live.
Well, guess what? This didn't blunt the revolutionary fervor. And the
winner of the game (our heroine) became the catalyst for this
movement. She was dubbed "Mockingjay."
Well, I don't intend to tell you anything about Hunger Games The
Mockingjay part 2. You need to go see it for yourself.
I can say that I figured it out, but my wife was surprised by the ending.
Whether you figure it out or not is not the issue.
The whole saga gives a lot to think about. And it has implications for
us now. Your thoughts about this would be greatly appreciated.
Can we learn something from this? We'll see.
