Sarasota Chalk Festival in Venice 2015

The ninth annual Sarasota Chalk Festival in Venice took place November 7th through the 14th and was another success for this highly popular local event.  Pavement artists from around the world traveled to the Sarasota Area to create beautiful and extravagant works of pavement art.  Art pavement has been around for hundreds of years.

The event was held in downtown Venice on West Miami Avenue  while 3D works of art were created at the Venice Airport.  One of this year's works, which covered more that 22,000 square feet, is being submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest piece of 3D chalk art ever created.  One of last year's works briefly held that record until it was surpassed.

This year attendance was estimated at over 150,000 and the theme was "Eat, Drink and Be Merry".   According to Denise Kowal, founder of the festival, this year's event was "Fantastic!".

The Sarasota Chalk Festival in Venice is one of many unique events held in the Sarasota Area throughout the year and just one more reason to make this paradise your home!
