When it comes to decorating a nursery, most people have at least 9 months to get everything in order. From the crib to the decorations to the paint, there is plenty of time to create a haven for the new baby.

However, when a child outgrows their nursery, there is not always a lot of time available to create a big kidbedroom space. Here are a few simple ways to make-over a nursery into a childrens bedroom.

1. Mattress and Bed Frame

Once a child outgrows their crib, the first step to making a big kidroom is to get a big kidbed, including a mattress and bed frame. While it can be tempting to get a fun, kid-specific bed, such as a race car bed or a princess bed, consider looking into a bed that can grow with the child. Purchase a comfortable bed thats practical, budget-friendly, and can last for years. Consider a bed that offers additional storage underneath, whether in the form of built-in cupboards or simply space underneath.

2. Decorations

Remove some of the baby-specific decorations, such as baby animals or baby books and replace them with more toddler-friendly decor. If you are interested in getting your kids involved in the re-design, have them make artwork for the space or crafts that they can display on a shelf. Having a hand in their room decor can make them feel important and part of the process.

3. Pillows

Adding in a few pillows can add sophistication and maturity to the space. If you are planning on going with a theme for the room, such as animals or a sports theme, consider finding pillows that tie in with the theme. Bringing in the theme with pillows allows the space to have a specific theme without making it permanent to the space. Once your child outgrows the theme, the items can be easily removed, giving you a blank canvas to bring in another theme.

Or, consider making pillows for the space. For those who are interested in DIY projects, it can be a fun way to add personality to the space. Plus, if your child outgrows the design, you can easily remove the pillow cover you made and replace it with a brand new one.

4. Furniture

Adding in a few bookshelves can be a great way to make a room feel more grown-up and organized. You can showcase their big kidbooks while also utilizing the shelves for organization. Shoes, toys, and other items can be stored in wicker or cloth baskets on the shelf, giving your children easy access to them.

If your child is no longer in diapers, turn the changing table into a dresser for them. By removing the changing pad, the space automatically feels less like a nursery and more like a childs bedroom. Converting the space into a dresser not only helps mature the space, it also gives more organizational space.

Lastly, add in a nightstand they can put by their new bed. To a child, it feels grown up. To a parent, it is practical. Nightstands are a great place to have a clock, water, a nightlight, music, and a lampall of which are things your children might need during the night. Having a space to place everything can keep them from getting scared or going down to the kitchen in the middle of the night.

5. Something New

It can be fun to let your child pick out something new for their room, whether it is a brand new blanket, rug, or picture for their wall. Giving them the chance to add to their own space can help them feel more grown up, as it gives them the opportunity to add their input. Plus, it adds character to the room by giving it a personal touch, which can make the space feel even more big kidfriendly.

These easy tips can help you quickly makeover a nursery into a special, fun childs room that can last for years to come.
