Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post.  My intent is to put a smile on your face.  Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know.  Now sit back and enjoy.

In accident reconstruction one of the mathematical formulas one learns is the Pythagorean Theorem.  Pythagoras lived during the 5th and 6th century B.C.  However studies have indicated the Egyptians may have divined the formula much earlier.  Whatever the case Pythagoras is noted for the mathematical equation and as they say the rest is history.  On a side note the mathematician is also known as the spiritual father of a cult obsessed with numerology.     On another side note Pythagoras hated beans…  Don’t know why but he did hate those tasty tidbits.  Strange don’t you think?

Good Saturday morning James. Although Pythagoreans may have formally written the equation, I do have to agree it must of been put in place long before hand. I would have to concur, the Egyptians most likely used it first.

Hi James.  I wonder how the fact that Pythagoras hated beans is still known 2,500 years after the fact?

James Dray Now I know why I will never be a 'cutting edge' mathematician; I do like beans more than pushing numbers!

Good morning James. Beans......really. Can't begin to guess why unless it was digestive.

Good morning James,

Love math. He peobably hated them as he did not want to be thought of as a bean counter!

Make yourself a great day.

Raymond stole my line. I was going to use that but this does illustrate the learning in this area while Europe was primitive.

James- I'm wondering with Gabe Sanders how we know the fact that Pythagoras hated beans. Intersting.

There were ascetic practices (many of which had, perhaps, a symbolic meaning). Some represent Pythagoras as forbidding all animal food, advocating a plant-based diet, and prohibiting consumption of beans. This may have been due to the doctrine of metempsychosis. Other authorities contradict the statement. According to Aristoxenus, he allowed the use of all kinds of animal food except the flesh of oxen used forploughing, and rams. There is a similar discrepancy as to the prohibition of fish and beans. But temperance of all kinds seems to have been urged. It is also stated that they had common meals, resembling theSpartan system, at which they met in companies of ten. There you go Kathy Streib
