Christmas Tree Cutting in Red Feather Lakes- 2015

By
Real Estate Agent with United Country Ponderosa Realty, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado

You can cut your own Christmas Tree December 5th through the 13th, 2015 in Red Feather Lakes, CO.

Next weekend begins the time of year when nearly every vehicle coming down 74E has a tree on top! People have been cutting their own Christmas tree in the area for several years- it's a family tradition for multiple generations.

Smokey Bear is there on the weekends greeting visitors and you  can take a picture with him, too.

To get to the tree cutting area, take Hwy 287 North from Fort Collins to County Rd. 74E, go west approximately 16 miles to County Rd. 68C ( The Boy Scout Rd) turn left and drive about 7 miles to the entrance of the tree cutting area.

Chains or Four-wheel drive are required to enter there. Hand saws only- no chainsaws are permitted.

For weekday cutting, permits are available for purchase at the U.S.Forest Service offices in Fort Collins, at 2150 Centre Ave., Building E , and in the Greeley Office at 660 "O" Street,  on Monday & Tuesdays  and Thursdays & Fridays.

Permits, which are $10.00 (cash only) can also be purchased at the tree cutting site on the weekends.

You can also cut a tree at Beaver Meadows Resort, http://www.beavermeadows.com/home; beside tree cutting they have a huge variety of outdoor winter fun, like their tubing park with lift ( up to 13 runs), ice skating, cross country skiing, snow shoeing - a restaurant and evening bonfires!

and don't forget to make time to shop at "The Greening" craft fair December 5th and 6th!

It's a beautiful time of year up here- well it's beautiful all year long- but I love it when it's dressed in winter white!  ' a great start to a magical holiday season!

Every year our family has this tradition we like to spend the day making memories with the children. I love the pictures the only thing missing in our market area is the snow.

Ah thanks Anna, you will have to come back to Colorado to cut your tree :-) It is a lot of fun - and sometimes challenging too!

Hi Sharon, you're right, it is a fun thing to do- Happy Holidays to you Sharon, thanks for coming by today !

Hi Pat, it's a great tradition - those memories will last forever!  Thanks for stopping by today Pat, enjoy your tree cutting!

Thanks Bruce,  I hope so! For a few weeks we will see a parade of trees going off the mountain.  The forest service says "they never run out of permits, and they never run out of trees" and of course, some folks will cut a tree from their own land up here too!
