Saturday Smiles: Tomatoes & Parsnips @The Santa Barbara Farmers Market

The temperature was at 41 degrees at 6 AM.  We are at 55 degrees at this moment and a high predicted at 63...Many of the farmers stayed home today, as did those who have plenty of leftovers. We still have heirloom tomatoes at the end of November!

Parsnips made their appearance this morning. I love the pale green of their stems.  They are a great vegetable for soups and for pickling.

Wishing you lots of Saturday Smiles,

Alexandra, It is too cold for me. you are so brave to go out in this weather.

I would like to buy those tomatoes just to get the seeds.

I still have about 30 tomatoes on the vine that I hope will ripen before we have a "killer" frost.

Alexandra=We are actually at 68* here but then we are going to drop back into the 50's and rain thru Weds so my last day outside for a number of days. It has been chilly in the 30's many mornings so I will enjoy today. Never had parsnips. A wide varieties of colors for the tomatoes

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I guess the veggies would be nice and 'refrigerated'!  Didn't realize that the Santa Barbara Farmers Market would get that cold.

Hi Alexandra and Ron -- as I was reading your post I checked to see the current temperature is 46 with the "high" expected to reach the mid-60s.   I guess it's time to break out the leather jacket.   Have a Happy Saturday.

Not sure I've ever had a parsnip in my entire life....come to think of it, a turnip either.....I guess I'm not a "nip" kind of guy!

Oh- Ron and Alexandra- that's cold!!!  The tomatoes look great.  Like Roger D. Mucci I'm not a big "nip" veggie person although Larry used parsnips when he made In Garten's chicken broth recipe.

Kathy Streib and Roger D. Mucci I tood did not like the snips, but I had a great cream soup at our favorite place in Los Olivos and that changed my mind on them.  A

Noah Seidenberg we got our down comforter out, as we do not have the heat on at night...It is too noisy.  A

Good morning A & R. Those temperatures are definitely ideal for some hot soup and looks like you have the beginning of ingredients you will need.

My mom taught me about parsnips-most people(young) today never heard of them. I like to use them in my home made soups and I put them in with my pot roast.

Good Sunday morning Ron and Alexandra Seigel -

Crazy cold weather for our area as well.  Our high was only 48 which is nuts for us.  Today we'll only hit the high 50's.  Needless to say we're both in sweat pants this morning.

Good morning Ron and Alexandra Seigel The parsnips captured my attention as my parents grew them in their garden.  As I read your post I had to chuckle warmly thinking about your chilly temps which to me seems WARM.  Temp in Erie is 46, twenty-three degrees warmer than yesterday.  Balmy for Dec. 1st
