A Gift You Can Give Yourself

Most professionals operate under a set of goals.  This holiday season is well known for giving, and as I was thinking of year-end goals, it occurred to me that there is a gift you can give yourself.

A gift you can give yourself would be the completion of one of your goals.  Many people tell me they have a goal to achieve, but they carry it forward each year because it's not attainable.  Why have a goal that is not attainable?  Why not make your goals something you can reach so you don't feel badly about yourself?

This is a real estate site.  I no longer practice real estate, but when I did, I absolutely could not begin each year without my goals.  I learned very early in my career to rely on goals for motivation to spur on.  Even the book of Proverbs tells us that a people without goals will perish.  Having goals out of our reach is just as bad as having none at all, and without them we will just drift through life.  I continually remind myself that people, human beings, are very much like plants - if they aren't growing, they die.  If they are not given nourishment, they die.

A gift you can give yourself is to realize a goal.  Even if the goal is not a great one in your eyes, it's still a goal.  Many of my students tell me they've wanted to sell real estate for years.  When pressed on the matter, they have determined that this particular goal is not important enough for them to attain.  What a crock!

Look, if you want to practice real estate, give yourself that gift.  Take the first step.  Get a license.  Change your life.  Make the first move toward achieving that goal.  A goal worth having is a goal worth achieving.  Take it off the shelf, dust it off and renew the commitment you made to achieving that goal.  Do it!  How can any goal that stretches you, that takes you out of your comfort zone and challenges you to be a better person be bad for you?  Yeah, it will cost you somewhere around $500 to get your real estate license, and then to actually practice real estate will cost  you a bit more to get going.  Today, though, it is easier to practice real estate while working your full-time job.  With computers, you can do it!

One last thing about goals:  If you have a goal to practice real estate, and you are working another job, be sure to give yourself an ending date to leave that job.  That way, you won't drift indefinitely as a part-time real estate agent.  If I can help, just let me know.  We are in the business of helping people reach their goals.  http://www.teamhughesrealestateschool.com

What a perfect blog for this morning! About 5 years ago, I left a 30+ year career in radio for real estate. I got my license in MD, VA and DC and then my Broker license.

My goals now are set on building my business online and personally. This is a challenge! You have reminded me to set my goals for each day and be realistic. Thank you! Have a wonderful week

Thanks for your comments!  When you take a vacation, think about coming to Florida.  You can take a week and get your license here as well!

Good morning, Carrie Hughes it's always wise to create goals that are achievable..... goals can be adjusted upward just before you reach it.... small steps are reasonable....

Thanks, Barbara.  Without goals, I would have washed out years ago!  LOL
