Chicago's Overnight Winter Parking Ban Starts Tonight
Chicago's annual winter parking ban begins overnight tonight. From December 1st to April 1st, residents are advised not to park along designated streets between the hours of 3am – 7am.
The purpose of the ban is to allow access for snow plows in the event of a significant snowfall. It also allows city vehicles to pre-treat roadways with salt prior to an anticipated snowfall. After a major snowfall, you can see real time information on where city plow trucks are working using the Plow Tracker on the City of Chicago website. Plow Tracker is not currently activated but will activated as needed during and after a major snowfall.
Watch for signs along major streets indicating restricted parking during winter months. There are several versions of signage you'll find alone routes with parking restrictions. If you do happen to park overnight along a restricted thoroughfare, you can check this site to see if you car has been towed to a city impound facility. If you can't find information about your car on this site, you'll need to call 311 to see if you car was towed to a private car impound facility.
