Taking a Tour By The Delaware River at Delaire Landing
Taking a tour down by the Delaware river with my granddaughter Olivia. At Delaire Landing we went exploring We saw big giant trees We walked through lots of crunchy colorful leaves
Squirrels seemed to be what fascinated Olivia the most . They were hopping and running through the leaves and onto the trees We sat on the park bench for a few minutes and watched the river but not for long We continued to walk down toward the observation deck .
Suddenly we saw what at first what we thought was a cat but it was a raccoon When it saw us it took off down the hill Olivia could not believe how scared she was.. I explained the Raccoon ran because it was more afraid of her then she was of it We continued our exploration toward the observation deck When we got to our destination She said " Nannie it is so peaceful and beautiful "
On our way back I explained about George Washington coming down the Delaware river in his boat to get bread for his troops during the Revolutionary War. The grounds here and at Delaire Landing and at Bakers Bay were once a huge Estate I was explaining this when suddenly this really big skunk was about 20 feet in front of us I told her not to move I was much more scared then she was Look a skunk she called out I told he to move really slow and not leave go of my hand The skunk was on the left of us .I said we were moving toward the right slowly toward the river She is a chatterbox I said don't talk just keep on walking soon we were far way from the skunk and laughing She was telling me everything she knew about skunks .
What a wonderful place to live. I have seen Eagles and even deer at Delaire Landing Skunks not my favorite animal but really didn't bother us Someone was leaving food in containers where the skunk was heading that was where we spotted the Raccoon Did not take a picture of the skunk for obvious reasons.
We were glad to get back and Olivia was tired Me I was shook up
