Grand Rapids / Wyoming has made many top ten lists! It does not surprise me. As a person who is not from here - I can see things other take for granite. My family and I moved here in 2001 - 2 weeks before 9/11. When 9/11 happened, we saw this community pull together and help each other, we knew we had moved to an awesome place.
However, we did feel we were lacking some big city ammenties at the time. Over the years we have watched Grand Rapids grow. Not only grow but making sure they grow with the "family" in mind. We have lived a lot of places and I am not sure I have seen such growth with out compromise to the community and thier familes.
In the last 14 years, we have watch the rise and then the fall in 2008, however with great comeback and for the last several years, we are the place to be.
We have made top 10 list for many - best place to raise a family, best retirment place, best schools, and some fun ones; best burger and best local beer.
The most receint Trulia has annouce Grand Rapids/Wyoming the place to watch reported by the GRBJ.
My husband and I are both from large cities - I from Miami (just outside) and he from Phillidelphia - we now feel with the growth we have the best of both worlds - family community with all the ammenties we need or want - but if we do get a hankering for a larger city good to know they are just a couple hours away - Chicago and Detroit are both just about 2.5 hours form Grand Rapids.
I would be remis if I did not mention if you are a foodie this is also the place to be - whatever it is you like or need you can find it here - GF options, Vegan Options - or some great cooking with all the fixings!
We have a place in downtown Grand Rapids as our main home is outside the city - but we crave city life so we spend the weekeds down town - on Sunday I wake to my coffee and listen to the church bells come from the historic beautiful churches and look out my window and watch the people go by, many walking thier dogs. I think our city is beautiful, friendly and its an honor and a pleasure to live here.
I do not have the talent for photography - however i took this pic (below) and I think its the best picture I have ever taken. Maybe its because the focus was on somethng I love!
Cheers Grand Rapids - for being the place to be - with out strong community and so many who are dedicated to this city we would not make these lists! I am proud to be here and call Grand Rapids Michigan my home!
