A Note to Mellenials, and Some Gen-X'ers Too ...

In the real estate business, we endeavor to enhance our business by building relationships. It’s much more complicated than just selling the house.

We treat our clients with respect of course, and we unashamedly suck up to our prospects, and it’s usually wise to get on the good side of your boss. However, some of you have not figured out that it is also important to try to be ethical, honest, respectful, and appreciative of other agents.

I’m not sure if you grew up in an orphanage, or you were raised by wolves, or if you were hatched and just walked out of the woods, but apparently something your momma would have tried to teach you didn’t take (that’s southern for you didn’t learn your lesson). Perhaps she didn’t believe in spanking?

It seems like it’s always some cutey-patooty that pulls this stunt. I had one call on Monday to set an appointment to show my listing yesterday. Had to make arrangements to get the driveway cleared of leaves (it is fall in Georgia). It required me driving up and down one of the largest mountains in the eastern US three times. Late yesterday, she sent me a text message that they were running behind and would be there today. This afternoon she sent me another one saying they were making an offer on another place and were no longer interested in looking.

Well, alrighty then Ms. Patooty!

Here is the note of advice … when you run someone around the maypole for three days, at least drive out and trip the lock box, then make up a lie. You got my clients all excited, and make me look like an idiot for trying to accommodate your self-serving attitude. I know, I know, your clients made you do it, right? I don’t care about them … but I will remember you Patooty!

Unfortunately, this was the second time for her. I probably should have mentioned that.

Things like this drive me nuts - but since I don't like being uptight, I storm around for 5 minutes, start doing some yoga breathing, go for a run or a fast walk -- and then it's over and I'm back on track.

I also use yoga to control "The Hand of Death" as Alice calls it in "Dilbert". LOL!

I agree, Ron. If a client wants to skip a house on the route, or they don't want to go in because they "don't like the look from the outside", I always try to get them to keep the appointment, especially if the house is occupied. Sometimes it is unavoidable; the client is ultimately the boss, but it doesn't take much effort to persuade the buyer to to the right thing and take a quick look. It's common courtesy for the listing agent and the expectant seller.
