Abandoned in a Foreclosure

By
Real Estate Agent with MagnumOne Realty CA BRE Lic. # 01418097

A few months back I was contacted by a journalism student at Sacramento State who was working on a story about pet's losing their homes due to foreclosure.  I told her I didn't have any direct knowledge, gave her some suggestions to follow and a few statistics about the increasing number of foreclosures in the area.  I know there must be some pets who would have to be given away or taken to the Humane Society when homeowners were forced to move to apartments or even move in with relatives after they lost their home but it wasn't until today when I ran across the following article that I imagined homeowners abandoning their pets, leaving them behind without food or water.

Two Rottweiler's left without food or water for at least six days.  Found abandoned in back yard of bank repo home.  Male is 7 years, 72 pounds.  Female is 9 years, 67 pounds.  Very mild mannered, they understand and obey basic commands (sit, stay, etc).  They appear to be dog friendly; they played with two small poodles.  Very affectionate, will sit in your lap, lick your face, etc.  Loving and people oriented dogs.  Contact Johnson Ranch Veterinary Clinic, Karen Hanson, D.V.M.  9260 Sierra College Blvd. #250 Roseville, Call 916/774-6630.

This is so sad. I don't understand when people have pets that they can't care for why they just don't surrender them to the property places to be handled.   But thanks to you Julie they will now have a chance in life and hopefully a new forever home with someone who will love them and care for them.  Your a great person.

That is so very sad that someone would abandon a pet like that. Especially penned up in a yard with little chance of escape and diminishing food/water.  I hope they find a new, loving home!  Glad to see you back in the rain Julie!

It really is a shame when selfish people don't care about an animal that is dependant on them for food etc.

That is horrible.  I have seen the toys and food left behind, but not the pets!!!  Even if you have to run, tell a neighbor, something!!!

Julie:   There are so many sad things about foreclosed homes; and leaving pets behind is just one more.  Hard to imagine, but then it used to be hard for me to imagine seeing people walking away from their homes.  Thanks for bringing this issue to light.

I know it must be hard for those that are losing there homes.  I've seen a garage after the dogs were left in it for a few days.  The toys and kids rooms bother me and then I just have to wonder and hope all works out for all.

Aloha Julie: Thank you for caring enough to comment on these beautiful dogs. Through your efforts some lucky person/s will adopt these great dogs. Good for you. I watch Animal Planet and there are a lot of people out there looking for kanine companions.

How sad. The least the owner's could have done was take them somewhere to be taken in.. like a shelter!

I read an article about that.  People can't afford to take care of them and just leave them.  It is so sad.
