The Feral Cats at Anaeho'omala Bay

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

The main way I could tell I was leaving resort grounds and wandering into a public beach area at Anaeho'omala Bay is when I lost my WiFi connection. Yup there I was, standing right next to an uncaptured portal and I could not hack nor capture it. I know what you're thinking, if that is the worst thing that could happen to a Sacramento Realtor on her wor-cation in Hawaii, how bad can it be? And you would be correct, LOL. I am not complaining, although for that itsy bitsy moment there . . .

And then I realized there were more portals ahead, and I could switch to cell coverage because unlike my funky mobile carrier, AT&T on my iPad is almost everywhere. Searching for Ingress portals leads me to very interesting places, like Mike Carroll's art gallery in Lanai City on the island of Lanai. I thought of him as I stumbled into a cat haven on Big Island at Anaeho'omala Bay. Mike's wife runs a nonprofit that catches and rehomes feral cats in Lanai.

You can read more in my personal blog today and see the photos at this link: The Cats of Waikoloa Canoe Club at Anaeho'omala Bay.

Hawaii, seems like a good place for a WorkCation, I keep trying for a project on one of those islands too, but so far have not found one.

Thanks for sharing the vacation Elizabeth.

I think that chewed ear may be an intentional marking that the cat has been fixed.  They took a cut out of the tip of Gray Kitty's ear when we had him fixed, thinking he would forever be feral.  Apparently, he had other plans.

I never stopped to consider this possibility, Chris Ann, but I believe you are on to something. Even Morris had his ear clipped. Thanks. Now I won't feel sorry for the cats I see with clipped ears, thinking they got them chewed off in a fight with a mongoose.

Those cats do a great job keeping the mice population down around the Waikoloan. I remember back a few years when a call came in at the front desk that there was a mouse in a room. The room was comped that night! So go make friends with a mouse!

Hey remember when we were driving today and I received an email from Active Rain that said this post was featured? It was not featured. How odd, huh?
