The disjointed morning of a real estate agent...

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with eXp Commercial, Referral Divison RRE-BRO-LIC-75443

I try to keep Mondays free of appointments so I can use the day to catch-up on office work. But what does that mean? What do real estate agents, or at least this agent, do with their time? I'm going to answer that question - here's a peek into the morning of this real estate agent. It's now 10:30am, and here's how I've spent my time so far today:

  • I was up late this morning. I didn't have my coffee in hand and my butt in my chair until 6:15am. I lost 45 minutes of work time!
  • I checked both of my business email accounts.
  • One of my emails told me several of my automated email alerts had been timed out, so I accessed the MLS system to check on those specific leads to see if I should reinitiate them. I reinitiated several of them.
  • I put the the remaining Winter Events guides into envelopes and sealed them.
  • I ate a banana and got more coffee.
  • I checked the MLS 24 hour hotsheet to see what new listings had come on the market, and to see what expired, sold, and went under contract. I determined that this morning nothing impacted my immediate clients.
  • I followed up on an issue with the buyer agent for my listing. I sent a few clarifying messages.
  • I checked my personal email; I had two comments on my broken ankle blogs that I responded to.
  • I thought several times, "I have GOT to pick a topic for a new blog post."
  • I walked the dog.
  • I addressed and stamped 25 envelopes with my Winter 2015 Events Guide.
  • I looked up all the expired listings in my area for the last six months. Then I compared them all to the most recent MLS data and removed anything that was now active or under contract or sold.
  • I again tried to come up with a topic for a new blog post.
  • I took the previously mentioned edited list of expired listings and looked up all the tax records to find the current owner of record and their address.
  • I handwrote the addresses on more envelopes with my Winter 2015 Events Guide. I was going to also print out some expired information but, "duh," had already sealed the envelopes so I'll have to send them information separately. I stamped the envelopes.
  • I again tried to come up with a topic for a new blog post.
  • I put the envelopes in the mailbox.
  • I updated my database of leads to include the new expired leads.
  • I put white cider vinegar in the coffee maker to clean it out.
  • I went for a four mile jog where I decided to write a post about my morning.
  • I wrote a post.

Now it's off to shower and contact leads and follow-up on several pending deals and provide some information on another listing to a potential buyer lead and at some point get to the post office for more stamps and the grocery store for dinner stuff and set up showings for later this week with one client and follow up on a few pending offers and check my lead database and call some past clients and check ActiveRain posts and .....

I've got to go now!

Kat Palmiotti I prefer to call it a "To Done" list and that's just what you did! I wasn't that impressed until you slipped in that 4 mile run.

Hi Kat.  Kind of a slow morning for you.  The four mile run was the most important event to complete.  Great stress reliever.

Margaret - I have too many things not yet done so guess I have to keep it as a "To Do" list!

Conrad - That's for sure, and it's also a great way to think of post topics.

Hi Kat! I was feeling reasonably good about starting my day at 7:30 until I read your post. I'm exhausted just seeing what you get done before I have my first cup of coffee. Need to go lie down I think...

Many people don't realize the work that's done behind the scenes. Sure, there may be constant interruptions or distractions, but there is always work to be done.

Will -  Thanks!

Jeffrey - I'll have to check out your blog to see that post!

John - I've had a bit of a posting block for the last few months and that helped me break through!

Mark - Thanks. I did feel like I was all over the place and not really on task, but things did get done.

Joe - It was busy; not sure if it was "successful" (no new buyers or sellers!)

Peter - Hahaha, 7:30 is great!

Pat - Yes, always!

Geez Kat.  I am feeling very humbled and embarrassed at the moment.  You pretty much kick a.. and take names while doing it.  I am going to have to take a closer look at my feel good moments.  Mark
