Dreaming of a White Christmas - A Celebration Chruch & Pastor Johnny Hunt Sermon

((Sermon Summary/Interpretation by Jason Will))

Pastor Hunt met his duty this morning as a Pastoral Leader for the Christian Church to remind us, its corporate body, of the true meaning of Christmas. For, it is simply human nature for the broken to seek to be made whole by our own vision of the perfect life, rather than the inconvenient truth that reality will never live up to our expectations.

We expect so much from life to be inherently ours and are often let down by the reality that good things come to those who seek to earn them by meeting the great responsibilities of life head-on. The broken seek distractions from inner struggles with the reasoning behind how and why bad things happen in life. We jeopardize our finances to to create our vision of a "White Christmas" consumed with a want for things, a season where all temporary needs are met and the debt of material happiness can be a problem we address at a later date. Yet, the inconvenient truth is that financing our dreams blocks us from God's best intentions for our life.

The great cost of "Dreaming of a White Christmas" is that it overshadows the beauty found in the authenticity of real life, the little things that we take for granted. Fear and disobedience are the 2 primary roadblocks that keep us from fulfilling our true destiny.

Fear leads us towards distractions that create dysfunction. Why are we so afraid of God's Plan? God's interruptions in life are merely invitations to get off the track of mediocrity and do the incredible. Faith is the method by which we can be released of the Spirit of Fear. Yet, Faith requires that we make peace with the fact that God's purpose is often different than our plans for earthly greatness.

The inconvenient truth is that Faith requires us to set aside our ambitions and lay ourselves at the foot of The Cross. The outcome is God's responsibility and obedience is ours. God uses our simple acts of obedience to change the world. He gave us the choice to start when we are ready, from wherever we are in life and decide that the next step we take is going to be one of Faith.

The frailty of the human perspective is made clear through our demonization of the unknown and the unexplainable. Yet, the fact remains that until we are ready to stand alone with God, we will not be deemed ready to be used in his service. He will let us spin our wheels until we become frustrated enough to seek out his call of surrender, to allow ourselves to be interrupted and inconvenienced by him.

It is not easy to obey, especially when we are consumed by the thoughts of the "White Christmas" - picture perfect moments we believe we deserve. However, pain is simply the currency of selfless service and freedom is the acceptance of things we cannot change. The greatest blessings in life are going to be the result of a simple act of obedience and not something that can be bought or financed.

"Dreaming of a White Christmas" should be a visual example of the transformational power of God's Truth. A day of reckoning, where we take personal inventory of our issues of the soul, which should be cleansed before we move into a new year. A day of peace and praise for being healthy, whole and set free from fear.
