Americans are planning to give back more in 2015
When I read this post, I couldn't help but wonder, 'How are we all going to give back more to our communities this year'? I look forward to reading your responses.
With a better economy and more jobs, people tend to do more and want to pitch in help the poor and needed.
According to a survey conducted and compiled as Well Being Index which breaks down age group, 71% employees plan to "give back" in someway.
More than half donate money or goods to a charitable organization while less than 20% plan to physically volunteer to help at events.
The older employees will donate more than younger ones. While the middle age (Gen Y) will help more than other age groups employees with an organization. You rarely see a senior citizen outside Macy's or Target soliciting donation. I read recently the Salvation Army received a check of $50,000.00 from a Samaritan couple among lots spare changes. That was the highest contribution ever received from a collection jar!
As there is more disposable income people do spend even more. According to recent new jobs created last month. Majority jobs created were in restaurant, housing construction and service industry.
The same survey shows dining out, food/groceries and entertainment are the three areas people blew their budget this year. This is especially true with younger generation who joined work force in recent years (age 20-30s). Cities like New York, San Francisco are great place to consume most income and finding out saving is lagging.
Also gadget spending is out of control as Americans became addicted to gadgets loving followed by the Japanese. Fitbit, smart phones, Nest, robot vacuum cleaners etc. are discretionary spending. Older folks would have to think about and have to justify.
