We are proud national partners with the American Red Cross, especially in a fire or flood disaster in Eastchester or Tuckahoe, NY.
As we enjoy summer weather in December, it may be tempting to light up that grill, or enjoy a candlelit evening on our wooden porch outside. We have seen so many difficult or tragic fire damages from the most innocent of situations with open flame candles or grills too close to a roofline or garage doors. Enjoy, but be careful of fires and beware of puffbacks -- that are essentially like a fire or soot damage in terms of how we clean it.

As a disaster recovery and cleanup team, Servpros nationwide have signed on as a national sponsor of the American Red Cross Ready Rating™ program. It's a free, web-based program designed to help home owners, businesses, organizations and schools become better prepared for emergencies. It's our Emergency Ready Program and you can login to learn more at http://www.redcross.org/news/article/SERVPRO-Signs-on-as-National-Sponsor-for-Ready-Rating-Program
"This partnership just makes perfect sense," said Jason Wilson, President and Owner of SERVPRO of Northeast and Southwest Jefferson County, "and truly completes the readiness equation for businesses and other property owners. The Red Cross Ready Rating Program allows individuals to assess their readiness for a disaster, so they can take all necessary steps before disaster strikes to protect their property from damage and loss

"Through the generosity of SERVPRO, Red Cross chapters...will help empower workplaces to re-open more quickly after natural or man-made disasters such as water main breaks, power outages, tornados, winter storms and floods through the Ready Rating Program," said Janine Brown, Sr. Director of Disaster Services for Red Cross Kentuckiana Region.
"Up to 40% of businesses never re-open their doors after such disasters; SERVPRO’s partnership will enable more businesses, schools and organizations to become better prepared.
We are excited to have SERVPRO join us in community outreach efforts to educate and highlight the importance of community preparedness in neighborhoods across the country."
Since September 2013, the one recognized as National Preparedness Month, SERVPRO has urged all property owners to visit the Red Cross Ready Rating website at readyrating.org,
Home and business owners can complete a 123-point self-assessment of their level of preparedness for weather-related or other emergencies. Aligned with the federal government's Private Sector Preparedness standards, the Ready Rating assessment offers businesses, organizations and schools access to tools, tips and best practices to help improve their level of preparedness. MOST BUSINESSES DO NOT REOPEN THEIR DOORS after a major fire or flood, about 50% have to close the business!
The following are Five Essential Steps to Preparedness – the cornerstones of the Ready Rating program:
1. Commit to Preparedness
2. Conduct a Hazard Vulnerability Assessment
3. Develop an Emergency Response Plan
4. Implement your Emergency Response Plan
5. Help Your Community Get Prepared
Always bring in trained and specialized teams for restoration, like at our local biz. Ask if a restoration company's crews are background checked, as some companies hire "day workers" from the curb at local hardware or convenience stores. They are not staff, trained and certified in water or soot restoration, or even known to the alleged restoration companies.
After a tragic fire, a business or home owners does not want to worry about their contents, inventory. They just hope get back to work! Your adjuster cannot legally tell you who to hire...check your policy, as it's all about hiring help and saving your property quickly, as your due diligence and not who you hire...FYI. Shop local at family and independently owned companies, who are part of your community, if possible.

Wilson added, "SERVPRO specializes in disaster restoration, cleanup and repair services, helping to remediate damage, making it "Like it never even happened," for both commercial and residential customers" For information on readiness resources visit the red cross site, or contact us for a complimentary walkthrough, a free service, for an ERP at your building.
