Spotlight on West Long Branch, NJ!West Long Branch, NJ  is a borough within Monmouth County, New Jersey.  West Long Branch borders other Monmouth County municipalities, including Eatontown, Long Branch, Ocean Township, and Oceanport. Originally call Mechanicsville throughout the 18th and much of the 19th centuries, the name West Long Branch seems to have been secured by 1889. The name derives from the “long branch” or south branch of the Shrewsbury River.

This small, central Jersey town is close to the beach, while also featuring many scenic trails and parks. Residents of West Long Branch have easy access to the beach, numerous outdoor attractions, shopping, and highly rated schools. Plus, a lot of the real estate in the area tends to be homesteads with land surrounding them, giving residents a sense of space and privacy. However, for those looking for more action, new apartment complexes closer to the beaches have been popping up recently, along with luxury waterfront condos. The nearest train is the North Jersey Coast Line, stopping at the Long Branch Station, and it is an hour’s drive from Manhattan. This gives the area a small-town feel, while still being easily accessible.

The district has two public schools serving students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade –the Betty McElmon Elementary School for pre-K through 3rd grade, and the Frank Antonides School for 4th through 8th grade. Public high school students attend Shore Regional High School, which is located in West Long Branch, and also serves students from the districts of Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, and Sea Bright. Additionally, West Long Branch is home to Monmouth University, a private four-year university founded in 1933. The school 5,600 students and 232 full-time faculty members.
