I'm stepping outside the blogging arena a little bit today, but we all use social media for business right? We all want people to find us via our social media if they are using Google right? And I'm here to tell you that terms that I found people typing and finding my site I've now moved toward dominating the first page of results and that includes using social media sites like Facebook.  Getting my pages "verified" helped to do that.

First some results.  I found that about 20 or so people a week were looking for on line reviews of agents at Lake Sinclair  (perhaps when looking for an agent) and were typing "Lake Sinclair real estate agent reviews" as a serach term so I decided to put out a trail that led them back to me.

As you can see from the results that I have two facebook pages that rank on page one for that term, plus my site ranks, plus my outside niche blog at ActiveRain ranks for that search phrase. On average I get about 30 clicks on my site per week that come directly from facebook or activerain to my site. I always have great bounce rates there.

Also a frequent search is "what's my lake sinclair home worth" and I decided I could use Facebook to help take up some space on page one of the search results for that search too.

As you can see on this screen shot my facebook ranked well, only the paid spots beat it. Also my site and my Linked-in page rank as well.

But back to my question about being verified. A while ago I was changing some settings on my business page after someone typed a foul word I didn't want on my facebook page.  Of course I deleted that comment, but sometimes it's a long period of time before I look at comments and wouldn't have wanted it there for a short time so I banned some certain words from posts on my page.

While I was doing that I noticed I wasn't "verified"

So this is how and why you need to do it.

You log in on your business page and go to the settings.

If you are not verified you will see NOT VERIFIED

If you click on "Edit" this comes up telling you that Verified pages have better results in searches.  Yay, right?

You simply have to type in your business or cell number and they call you with a code that you will need to input and then hit enter.

After you've been verified it changes to this.

And did it help?  Yes, it actually as you can see moved some of the results to above my site. But since it links right back to my site and my site is still on page one I can live with that. My goal is to have 100% of the first page of organic results for several long tail search phrases in my market.
