Win / win or compromise / compromise?

There are those occasional transactions where it seems that what each side wants suits the other side just right. It would be fair to say those are real win / win situations. But most of the time in real estate there is more than a little give and take.

Most often the seller is not quite getting the net price they really wanted and the buyer is not getting the seller to repair every last issue identified in the inspection report.

Compromise / compromise is the most authentic way to describe most transactions. That doesn’t have to mean either side goes away unhappy. Usually what each side gets is enough to make them happy. And what they got is better than the other options.

If you are the person who has to WIN at all costs, you may need to prepare yourself to make an exception for a real estate transaction.

Be nice, play fair, and be willing to comprise if there is enough value that you are getting a good deal even if you don’t get everything.

I would say it also depends on market.  Couple years back, I had a seller that did a straight up take it or leave it, and would not budge.  Got everything he wanted, conceded nothing.

There is usually some sort of compromise on both sides at some point in the process.
