Serendipity Sunday-Angels Among Us

This is a short story.

We bought our first horse trailer yesterday.

The weather for the entire day was horrendous. Rain, cold, wind, totally not the kind of day you want to be picking up a large trailer and driving through rain torrents and windy roads for two hours one way.

We braved most of it until we reached the last half hour of our journey home to our ranch.

We're on a very narrow, two-lane "highway" (Hwy 47 going towards Mist, OR) that creeps up to an elevation of 1320 feet with sharp hairpin turns. Scary drop-offs, incredible slopes and alders that lean towards the road on the steep hillsides.

Treacherous at times.

We're winding up the hill and a snow plow passes on the other side. A minute later we come upon a huge tree that had JUST fallen across the entire road.

My husband uttered an expletive.

We were screwed.

Not more than 15 seconds went by and a large dark green rig comes down the hill on the other side, stops, the youngish man gets out, grabs a chainsaw from the back, and lickety-split, takes care of the tree. Three of us pull the large chunks off to the side and we are all on our way in less than five minutes!

Now, tell me there aren't angels among us????!!!!

Hannah, the funny thing was after we got back into the truck my husband informed me that he had thought about putting his new chainsaw in the truck that morning when we left, but he didn't. I'll bet he would have kicked himself to Kingdom Come if that fella hadn't come along!

Noah, and I'll have to pull a photo of my girl Pearl and share it! I will bring her in March most likely, as we have MUCH to do on prep work in and around the barn before bringing her.

Oh, how I love that song, Mel! But, it's too high for me to sing. So, I'll have to just hear it in my head. So happy to see you here in the Rain!!!!!

I am really not sure why you didn't just get out and toss the tree to the side of the road, you are Super Woman, right?  I like your new profile picture!!!

Dec 13, 2015 08:04 AM
Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate

Well, Brian, I got right out of the truck and took over pulling the top of the tree while he zipped his way through it. Yes, I did help to move all of them, but if I'd been Super Woman, then I probably wouldn't have needed an angel and we ALL need them.

Thx for liking my new pic! The other one was over a year old.

Gayle how awesome, if you are good then good things happen to good people, first you did not get hit by the tree, then the young man appears and happens to have a chainsaw and the list goes on and on...on a side note love the new picture Endre

Lovely post, Gayle... Indeed, yes, there are angels among us! Nice horse trailer too! I've driven Highway 47 there a few times. Of course, during the summer and it was beautiful. I wouldn't want to be caught in a storm on much of that road, and I can't imagine trying to turn around with a trailer on much of it.

Well, plain and simple, You Can't. We were sunk without the help of this man. And it was as if he showed up just to do this. Honestly, it was as if someone called him and said, "Hey, can you grab your chainsaw and go cut this down for these folks?"

Isn't it great living in a rural lake community Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 .   Not quite as dramatic but a similar thing happened to me in a wind and rain storm a couple months ago.
