My cat loves lying underneath the tree, and she has not messed with it ... yet!

Joe Jackson ~ mine, as well, Joe. My cats and dogs have never bothered our trees, but I know lots of people who tell me horror stories.

Nina Hollander Haven't used tinsel in years and who in their right mind would decorate with chocolate?

But the number one issue is training. A well trained, well behaved dog would NEVER do anything with the tree.

Bill Roberts

BTW I know nothing about cats.

Bill Roberts ~ hi Bill... I will admit that two of my most favorite memories of childhoold Christmas trees are (a) tinsel and loved the glitter; (b) real candles, not electric lights, on the tree. Both appear to be major no-no's now. Somehow, I survived my Germanic childhood. Obviously, you were not raised in an overly Germanic home, as the Germans hang wrapped chocolate figurines on trees that look like ornaments. Loved those, as a child, as well.

For some reason, I never needed to "train" my dogs or cats to leave the trees alone.... no idea why. Also, much easier to train a dog than a cat. Personally, I've met lots of people whose pets are totally not trained to behave and I must admit I don't like it as much as I love dogs and cats. In the end it's a people problem not pet problem.

Of course Nina Hollander Pet owners also need training.

And you are right, I am not German, but we did use tinsel. I just never liked the work involved.

Bill Roberts ~ personally, I think some pet owners need more training than their pets!

I'm sure the tinsel thing is more of a "girl" thing. My mother taught me how to hang it one strand at a time. I found it strangely soothing to do so even as a girl.

Great tips for our pets. They can get in to so much trouble without even trying.

Bobby sent me over to leave a comment so you would be that much closer to being a millionaire in AR.  You go girl!

Will Hamm ~ good morning, Will. So many unfortunate "accidents" that can ruin a holiday just because people aren't aware.

Joan Cox ~ good morning, Joan.... it's all pretty "small" stuff, but can add up to real danger for a cat or dog if someone isn't aware. (So what did you decide on for your trip?)

Brian England ~ thanks, Brian... our pets are very much members of our families and we shouldn't be ignoring their safety any more than we do the safety of our kids and grandkids.

Nina - I cant't help thinking  about the cat in National Lampoon's Christmas vacation.  Don't let them drink the water.

Debbie Reynolds ~ hi Debbie... we've been fortunate over the years that our cats and dogs have pretty much left our trees alone. Would like to say it was good training by us, but really can't take the credit.
