The things we take for granted

I have been working in my home office a bit more over the past several weeks and have noticed something that probably happens far more than I knew. No, there are no huge neighborhood parties going on while I am away during the day, but the power does flicker on and off.

The other day for about 10 minutes the power flickered on and off, just enough to disrupt my Internet connection. I have had a computer fried at the house because of these power interruptions, so my good computer is hooked up to an Uninterruptable Power Source (UPS) to keep that from happening again.

The other day while I was at lunch the power crews in their trucks pulled up. I suspect they had been out working on something, causing these power pauses. I realized that I take for granted that the power will always be there when I need it. Just like the water and gas coming in to my home.

In a season of giving thanks, let's all remember the people who keep our vital services running. Also the Doctors, nurses, and staff that keep our hospitals open around the clock. The firemen and police, and all others we count on to make our lives so much easier. Thank you to you all.

Peter - There certainly are a lot of things to be thankful for that help us do our jobs and keep us healthy. Sometimes we do take them for granted.
