What Does “Politically Correct” Mean Anyway And A Couple of Other Musings?

This blog was written yesterday morning as soon as I woke up and shared on Facebook. I did not see Joe's blog until this morning when Bob Crane shared it. Pretty ironic and the reason I decided to copy and paste it from Facebook and share it on Activerain. Maybe, just maybe, if we read someone's opinion who is not in agreement with ours that something might happen. We might get a glimmer into a thought process unlike our own. We may not agree, but we might not be apt to disrespect that person.
I see so many people on Facebook who throw around the term politically correct as if it is the worst insult one could say to another. So my curious brain started to wonder what does it really mean to say someone is tired of being politically correct all the time.
Let’s start by defining the term.
po·lit·i·cal·ly cor·rectpəˌlidək(ə)lē kəˈrekt/adjective
exhibiting (or failing to exhibit) political correctness."it is not politically correct to laugh at speech impediments" synonyms:unoffensive, nondiscriminatory, unbiased, neutral, appropriate, nonpartisan; informal PC "the true meaning may be clouded by his politically correct language"
So when we are being politically correct we are taking into account other people’s feelings and trying to be inclusive of all? Right? Did I miss something here? Somehow though this is a bad thing and it is equally bad to be liberal. Since they are equally bad the two are usually tied together. Liberals and their need to be politically correct! Bah! I guess being liberal is something I remain proud of because I don’t think being inclusive of all is a bad trait.
The other thing I wondered about was why there is this insistance to label the terrorists as Muslim. Is it because that’s what they call themselves? Who wins when we call them Muslims? Do the followers of the Muslim faith win? Do they see the terrorists as part of their community or faith, rather? I don’t believe they identify with these radicals anymore than the Christians identify with the radicals who act in the name of Jesus. I’ll refer to the Westboro Church for that example. So they act in the name of Christianity, right? I believe we are steadfast in identifying them as extremists and just a bit “crazy” and that is because any Christian knows Jesus isn’t about selecting a few of God’s children to love and then harshly judging others. I mean some of the things the Westboro Church do in the name of Christianity is mind boggling and as I said unrelatable to the Christian church, WHICH IS THE SAME WAY THE MUSLIM FOLLOWERS FEEL ABOUT ISIS.
Do you know anything about Mohammad? As I’m curious by nature, I’ve wanted to find out more about the Muslim faith. I know he was a man of peace and that the Muslim faith is known as a religion of peace. Here’s an excerpt which I find very relatable as it reminds me of Jesus.
Prophet Muhammad taught us to love God and to obey Him. He taught us to be kind to each other, to respect our elders, and care for our children. He taught us that it was better to give than to receive and that each human life is worthy of respect and dignity. He taught us to love for our brothers and sisters what we love for ourselves.
So when one reads that then it is easy to understand why a Muslim cannot identify with ISIS or any terrorist who kills in the name of this religion. It is as ludacrious as I said earlier as believing someone who kills in the name of Christianity.
I guess I’m still being politically correct by not identifying the terrorists as Muslim, but am I being politically correct by not identifying the zealots who act in the name of Christianity or am I being sensible?

Good morning Sarah. This is a complicated issue. So many are quick to paint others with a broadbrush and I think it all comes down to integrity and life experience.

Good Tuesday morning Sarah Cole -

I may be in the dog house for saying this but there are times when I am tired of all the political correctness.  After all real life is what it is.  Not always perfect, happy and political correct.
