Living next to a wash brings all kinds of daily visitors to our back door - literally!
There are the Cardinals - family of three. Usually Mr. or Mrs.
perches on top of the outdoor fireplace, waiting patiently for the door to slide open and a handful of peanuts to be scattered on the patio. They swoop in, grab one, and go tell the rest of the family it's chow time.
The "Stripes" family - 1 elder, two more "nervous" youngsters. They make themselves very busy finding places in the planters to bury their captured peanuts, or, spreadeagle on the patio to eat the occasional one as they do their work.
Woody "One Foot" - A woodpecker that has lost the use of his
left leg, "crash lands", grabs a peanut, and flys away to eat it without being bothered by the rest of the woodpeckers who alternate between peanuts and pretending they are hummingbirds on our feeders.
Which brings me to the hummingbirds. They land, and sit, while feeding. They are very territorial, and a feeding is often interrupted by being buzzed by another hummingbird, which leads to a "dog fight" in the sky...

Infrequently, a family of Javelinas wanders by, perhaps
every couple of months, interested in whatever might be on offer that day...
The doves live on the side block fence next to the wash. They are the most mellow of the critters out there. Either eating seed - or resting - for the most part.
And of course, the quail. A "qorus" of quail. When they hear the back door screen slide open, the call out loudly to express their appreciation of the seed that is about to arrive.
Other usual suspects include grackels and roadrunners. The latter tends to make the other smaller creatures scatter quickly. The former usually perch on the back of the chair and stare into the kitchen until we notice them!
