Drone Rules & Regulations, as well as Deadlines Released.

Thanks for the information Larry Johnston regarding the rules and regs emerging from the FAA about the legal way to be involved with drone aerial photography.  Let's hope those who have been ignoring the FAA so far and doing it anyway have the sense to comply.  The last thing we need is some idiot causing a commercial flight to crash, and there have been some close calls...

Drone Rules & Regulations, as well as Deadlines Released.

Drone Registration begins on Monday, December 21, 2015.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) , just released the long awaited answers to Drone Photography for Real Estate Professionals and other UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) operators.

Santa Brought Me a Drone for Christmas!

NOW WHAT?

It is expected there will be Christmas sales of 400,000 Drones this year, with more sales in 2016.

All Drones from .55 to 50+ lbs must be registered by February 19, 2016.  Fines could be up to $27,500 for unregistered Drones. If the Drone was purchased before Monday, December 21, 2015, you have until the February deadline. If you purchased the Drone as of December 21, 2015, the drone must be registered before it can be flown.

The registration must be on-line and include your name, address and email address and will cost a $5 fee.  That fee will be reimbursed for people that register their Drone within 30 days from Dec. 21.

Your registration will include the registration number and procedures to placed on the drone. This will make it easier to trace back to the owner, in the event of a crash or incident. For more than one drone you just put the same number on all of them. The regulations will be available when you register on-line.

The Drones are restricted to fly below 400 feet and not within 5 miles of an airport.

What I am wondering is does it have any other effects on our ability to use them yet... I also heard that there is talk about making people have insurance... another way make money and another reason for suing... but still... I want one... :)

Larry Johnston A topic near and dear to my heart as both a pilot and in my past corporate life a very frequent flyer.  Thanks for writing it!

Dianne Hicks I'm not sure - but - it's critical IMHO for airspace to be regulated.  If something goes wrong you can't just pull over to the side of the road...!

I'll absolutely agree with that... I have heard GPS has really improved on them so that is a little helpful...

Dianne Hicks Interesting about the GPS - thought they were supposed to be kept in line of sight - will have to dig deeper!

No... I have heard a lot of stories where it is out of sight... People fly them all the time and sometimes out of sight... but they have also gotten better also when you tell it to come back to you... providing there are no obstacles in the way...

Dianne Hicks I think the new rules (and the old rules) require that they be kept within sight - even if you have to have another spotter involved - but - I could be wrong...
