After taking my uncle to O'Hare really early (6:15 a.m.) this morning, taking in a movie and doing some Christmas shopping I decided to treat myself to a big lunch. I had heard that someone had opened up a BBQ place at the old Gray Mill in Montgomery, IL along the Fox River. Since I was heading home and its close to Oswego I made an executive decision to check it out!
Great decision! Although the interior appears to have stayed the same the food is totally different from the previous restaurant that had occupied the space. My server, Maureen, gave me the Cliff Notes on how Harlan and Katie came up from Arkansas and opened up a small BBQ joint which grew, then they went to Sandwich and did it again! Now they have come over to Montgomery to share their good food with those of us on the river. I for one am thrilled they did!
I had to order the ribs, fries and corn muffin. I would have taken a picture but I was not fast enough and it disappeared! Loved it! The fries were really seasoned perfectly, the meat fell off the bone and the muffin...well, let's just say I wished I had ordered a 2nd one!
I spoke to a father and daughter who were enjoying their meal who recommended the Chuck Norris which appears to be a sampler of all the meats on the menu. Perfect for the big EATER who can't decide what they want to eat!
From all the happy smiles of the rest of the diners, this place is a hit! With catering on the 3rd floor and a full service bar in the lower level you have several options.
Open Wednesday - Saturday - come out tonight!
