Santa’s Headquarters at the Danbury Fair Mall
Did you know that Santa has established his Headquarters at the Danbury Fair Mall this year? Well, there you have it.
Just in case you’d like to drop by, the Danbury Fair Mall is at:
7 Backus Avenue
Danbury, CT 06810
off of I-84 and Rte 7
The Danbury Fair Mall
is the second largest enclosed shopping mall in Connecticut and somewhat surprisingly, the fifth largest in all of New England. It first opened in 1986 on 100 acres of what used to be the sight of the famed Danbury Fair, hence the name. Parts of some of the original structures are still evident around the mall.

Brief History of The Danbury Fair Mall - The Danbury Fair
The Danbury Fair was a beloved ongoing local October event for 160 years, from 1821 through 1981. It started out as a typical agricultural fair, but was later transformed by local hat manufacturing businessmen (Danbury’s nickname is Hat City) into a far more multi-faceted affair that included more diverse vendors. By the end of the 19th century, the Danbury Fair was said to employ more than 1000 people and offered not only livestock and produce competitions, but farm and household necessities such as wagons, carriages, stoves and so on. Food, harness races, rides and other entertainment were available as well. In the early 1930’s a track was built for midget car and stock car races, to add to the mix.
The last fair was held in October, 1981. I was fortunate to have visited the Fair in the late ‘70’s during week-end trips to Candlewood Lake while living in New York City (less than 70 miles from the West side). I was sorry to see the Fair go, but it’s nice to have the mall here. Now SANTA himself has made his way to the Danbury Fair Mall!
Happy Holidays to All!
