Holiday at the Arboretum is a must this year. Last week, I enjoyed an afternoon strolling through the Winter gardens. The Dallas Arboretum Staff has created an incredible holiday wonderland for all to enjoy.
Twelve Days of Christmas
Throughout the gardens, visitors are seen peering through the gazebo windows of each beautiful Victorian vignette depicting the Twelve Days of Christmas featured in the English Christmas Carol. Visitors are overheard saying that they cannot select a favorite, as each display has exquisite detail. The beaded Victorian gowns adorning the Nine Ladies Dancing were designed and created by the Dallas Opera. Frederic Austin's version of the Twelve Days of Christmas fills the air with music.
Holiday Tea at the Arboretum
Holiday Tea at the Arboretum is an annual event for many families in Dallas. Set in the beautiful DeGolyer house, there is not a more fitting location to enjoy tea during the holidays. The Roasted Chestnut Soup, currently on the menu, is amazing. Served in a sipping cup, with flavors similar to the most delicious Chestnut Dressing, this soup left me begging for the recipe! The variety of savory and sweet treats, along with three seasonal teas, is always outstanding. Each table receives a mini gingerbread house. The ambiance, the view of the gardens, the service, and the menu make this a festive afternoon to remember.
Artistry of the Nativity
DeGolyer House is adorned with 500 extraordinary Nativity scenes from around the world. Tables and shelves, and other surfaces are covered with multiple crèches. In addition to this special exhibit, there are countless ideas for holiday decorating in your home. The fireplace mantles in the home are opulently decorated, along with the beautiful Christmas trees. Be sure to take note of the materials used in the interior architecture of this magnificent home as you experience the Artistry of the Nativity.
Hoffman Family Gift Store
Holiday gift items are available for people of all ages and interests. Last week, there was a beautiful selection of items for children and adults. Unique items for those who love to garden, wearing apparel, toys, jewelry, table top items, and beautiful books are among the popular items available for purchase.
Plan Ahead
Make reservations for one of the restaurants or for tea. My favorites are:
Wear comfortable shoes to walk through the gardens. Sixty-six acres is a lot of walking!
Trams are available to take visitors from the Arboretum entrance to the DeGolyer House.
