How many times have we heard "work smart, not hard" ?
I know this, w
e all do, but yet I have been working way too hard and not smart at all.
For the last 6 weeks or so, I have sent out 500 post cards, many emails solicitations to FSBO and Investors. I have attempted and failed at cold calls, hired a coach for accountability, went to several networking events and handed out business cards as much as I can, blog and paid for - jeez so much; stuff I may not even need (listingbook service, constant contact, boosters for Facebook posts, activerain membership, website, domain name, redesign of my website......).
I felt the urge to keep busy, and thought that if I stayed busy it meant I was doing something right; and while that compared to sitting idle is far better, being busy and working smart are two different things.
Yesterday, I took 2 hours and went to the park and starting thinking about how quickly I have ran through money this last 2 months, realized that outside of a "iffy" investor that I have absolutely nothing to show for it. I was forced to ask myself am I really spending time doing the right things or just doing things that might be easy or more comfortable to me?
I kept putting off developing a comprehensive business plan to do "busy work" and that has been the biggest mistake.
So to remedy the situation, I have decided to take the rest of the year off, stop from doing busy work and develop a strategic approach to attaining my 2016 goals; like develop a proper business plan with budgets for marketing and operational activities.
I know it has taken me too long to get to this point, simply because I truly know better. I have already spent a lot of time and money, but like to say better late than never.
Come on 2016!
