ActiveRain: The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Austin Texas Homes, LLC 453249

I rarely seem to find the time or inspiration to blog much these days, although it's not from a lack of desire. I simply have a hectic life right now, with four kids (two teenagers, two "little" kids), a ministry, church stuff, and, oh yeah, I have a brokerage to run and buyer and seller clients to help.

Additionally, it's NFL football season, and even though my team is very unlikely to make a Super Bowl run (20 years and counting), it is the only sport I follow, so there's that.

Well, enough excuses.

Here I am, and I want to share something that may inspire you.

Even though I probably haven't been considered a regular contributor on AR for several years, I still get referrals from my friends here, and I still have clients who find my profile.

Let that sink in for a minute.

The content I wrote here is still bringing me business, and with relative frequency.

Today, I met with someone that was referred to me by an AR member whom I had the pleasure of meeting back in 2009. It will be a $525-575K sale in the next couple of months. The picture to the right above is a house I showed yesterday to this client.

There is really no need to belabor the point. Blogging pays dividends. I never would have had the opportunity to meet my AR friend if I hadn't been a very active blogger back in 2007 - 2008.

I have said this before, but it was probably at least a year ago when I last mentioned it:

Do not limit yourself to business posts. Those have merit, no doubt, but so do posts about your interests, family, local events, and pretty much anything you are comfortable posting.

Do not limit yourself.

This year alone, I have made $21,000+ just by sending referrals to friends I met here. I can confidently tell my clients that I can find a good agent ANYWHERE in the country for them. In pretty much any major market, I have friends now. Some of them I only know through text and phone calls. Others, I have met in person. Either way, it makes the process much easier, and it's a good source of additional income, AND I have happy clients. It's a win-win-win.

Mix and mingle. Write a lot. You can thank me later.  :)

I've reached out to a few people on AR for referrals ... but have not received any referrals on my end.  I need to be more active and writing blogs -- have to make the time or it never happens.

I am one who needs to blog more regularly, but I do make it a point to check in and comment every day. Agents and others in fields related to real estate are my clients, so I want to be visible all the time.

Jason Crouch indeed ActiveRain is a 'gift' that keeps on giving.

I also had a successful sale through a referral from ActiveRain recently. Not to mentioned about a few that I have referred out (some of them did not go through, though.)

Like you, I can say, I have great friends all across USA!

Jason, it really is good to hear your experience on AR and how it pays off down the road. We are often impatient and want instant gratification, but all good things take time.

Jason, I've been blessed with multiple deals that were referrals from other Rainers, and I am grateful. I've also sent a few out. This place is a wonderful treasure for those of us looking to help clients in other parts of the country.

Thanks, Jason, for the clarification....I kinda thought since you'd not been all that "active" on "Active Rain" that perhaps you had scaled back your RE biz. I am more than happy to send any Austin area referrals I come across to you. I believe without hesitation that you would take excellent care of them. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you & those you love! =)

I was just discussing this topic with another Austin Realtor, how effective this site has been for generating clients, referrals and repaltionships with our peers. Good to see you back at it again, and wishing you more success.

Jason, what I like is when I put a blog post out it is there for eternity (almost) and people find stuff I have written years ago.

Jason, LIke you I have been here in 2007, blogged steadily, then gone away, and then come back. I have had referrals through AR but not much going on lately. I did have someone who said theyw ere a part of active rain but when i tried to contact them I ever heard back. But staying here I am although that sounds a bit like how Yoda might say it.

In social media, it is about keeping the conversation going, and with real estate it is great to do business as well. Amazing that those 20072008 contacts keep the deals going....

That's interesting, I usually don't post about personal things--I do post about activities in my area. HOwever I see the importance, getting a 'feel' for someone's personality from what they write.

HI Jason  You are absolutely right. I began blogging on AR back in 2006. In the past few years I have not been very active but this is a strong platform and it does give back.
