No matter what size house you have, there’s always room to have an indoor garden, especially in the winter months.  So, why not try an herbal tea garden?  You can grow herbs indoors or outdoors but there are many herbs that thrive inside.   In fact, about.com lists 10 that are super easy to grow.

The website says to start your tea garden with lemon balm. It’s a great herb for container gardening and is used in herb tea mixes.  It’s best to keep lemon balm from flowering by harvesting the flowers before they have a chance to turn to seed.  Known as a soothing herb, lemon balm is a great choice for strengthening the immune system.

Number two on the list is red raspberry leaf.  This her is great if you want a delicious cup of tea!  about.com says the leaves are also great to harvest since they’re so plentiful.  The berries are a bonus in case you want to start an outdoor herb garden.

If you have an herb garden, you must have mint. It’s easy to grow in sunlight or in shade.  There are dozens of varieties of mint, with the most popular being peppermint.  You’re probably also familiar with menthol.  The vapors are famous for treating colds, relieving chest and nasal congestion.  Hmmm  A cup of peppermint tea sounds good right about now.

To relax after a long day at work, think about brewing a cup of chamomile tea.  The sweet-apple like flavor helps with nausea and digestion not to mention nerves!

Lavender is good for just about anything.  It has been used since ancient times and was used in public baths by the Greeks and Romans.  But did you know it repels insects, including moths, as well?  Also, lavender essential oil is only one of a number of EO”s that can be used on the skin.  Some even say lavender wards off bad headaches.  Lavender is also used as a sleep aid.

Specifically grown for teas, lemon verbena is another herb you should add to your garden.  Although grown mostly in tropical climates, lemon verbena does very well indoors.

Although we think of catnip for our pets, it can be very soothing in tea.  But it’s powerful. Try blending a bit of catnip, chamomile and then mint for a cup of relaxing tea.

If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll definitely want to grow the herb Stevia.  Believe it or not, the plant is 300x stronger than sugar so you only need a tiny bit.  It tastes like black licorice.

Yarrow is definitely a medicinal plant.  It helps with digestive problems, high fevers, and even helps stop bleeding.

One herb that’s great for the kitchen is dill.  It grows great in any garden.  Dill is used for herbal teas as a natural sweetener and after dinner tea.
