Geographically located about 4 miles north of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), south of the City of Denton, NW of Dallas, in the south central part of Denton, County, Texas, bordered on the south by Lake Grapevine. Flower Mound got its name around 1844 or 1845 because its prairie land was covered in beautiful purple flowers. Many settlers came to Texas to get rich in oil. Flower Mound sits on top of the Barnett Shale, one of the largest & most heavily off-shore reserves of unconventional natural gas of the United States. It was incorporated in 1961. The population of Flower Mound now exceeds 65,000. Schools are highly rated.
Many pioneers settled in Flower Mound and were taken aback by the landscape and the beauty. There was substantial farming, cattle, and dreams to come true. Back in the late 1940, early 1950's a landowner by the name of R. L. Donald, Jr. drilled for oil on his property. There was a seismic explosion but rather than black gold, oil, he discovered gas. Flower Mound sits on top of the largest gas producing company in the United States called the Barnett Shale. People rushed as fast as they could to get to Flower Mound and many still do. The city was founded by people with courage, strength, and resilience. I won't give you any bull, sure, there were lots of cowboy fights over the years. For many, it was a tough life but the city kept growing and building men and women with character. As my daddy who raised five girls, no boys would always say, "Boys will be boys, but girls can be worse, never underestimate the strength of a good woman!"
