Belmont Hotel Little Rock Camp Pike

This is a wonderful old photograph and on the back it says, "Belmont Hotel Camp Pike."  A little research shows that this was near a military base called Camp Pike.  In one news item on line I found this picture which is obviously the front of this building. Belmont Hotel Little Rock AR Here is the article that comes with the picture. http://www.arkansas-catholic.org/news/article/1121.  The article was written in 2008, however, so I now wonder whether the building is still there.  Can we do a little sleuthing and find out.  It was built in 1910, so says the article, and needs extensive repairs.  I do wonder how it looks today!

Another article that I found http://www.encyclopediaofarkansas.net/encyclopedia/entry-detail.aspx?entryID=5360#  says that it is a Charles Thompson design and gives the whole history.  Now we just need a North Little Rock person to send us a picture as it is today.

First Bishop John B. Morris, the founder of the school that bears his name, Morris School, outside Searcy also bought 720 acres five miles north of Little Rock in 1907 to build a place for children and elderly who had no one to care for them. The existing St. Joseph Orphanage was built in 1910 to replace a smaller structure on the property to serve local orphans as you read in the link above.

It's called St. Joseph Farm now.

The google man found it at 6800 Camp Robinson Rd, North Little Rock, AR.

Barbara,
For 1910 that was a very large building. I’m glad Don Thompson was able to fill us in on where it is.

Super Sleuth Don Thompson, thanks!!!  I knew you would find it and even though I had read about the Bishop buying it I did not notice he was also the founder of our Morris School!

David, Don Thompson is a great blog ally!
