Once again Belinda Spillman has challenged all of us to Pay It Forward by making a difference in the the lives of others. I believe that we are called upon to do this every day.
So to begin let me say that I believe that we can give the three T's--our time, our talent, and our treasure.
For a number of years I have worked with the Volunteer Center New York which is an organization receiving funding from the United Way. But to be more specific I am part of a group of executives who are 55 and over. It is our mission to use our experience help solve many community concerns.
I have used my talents in human resources, organizational development, and strategic planning to help organizations such as The White Plains Youth Bureau, Richmond Community Services, Aging in Place, YWCA, and The New Rochelle Center for the Arts, and veterans about to be discharged and looking for work. The work has ranged in the employment area from doing mock interviews with high school students to make them job ready to helping vets take their skills developed in the service of our country and applying that to private sector jobs. In the area of organizational development I have done pro bono strategic planning processes to non profit organizations such as Richmond Community Services and New Rochelle Center for the Arts.
But this month I have developed my own company's "Pay It Forward." I am donating to 12 businesses a 3 session class process complete with professional workbooks. So during the month of January 2016, I am giving away an Annual Goals Review Course valued at $500 each. I am contributing my time and paying the expenses for the books and the facility.
Here is how it works.
People will sign up by making a $50 donation to their favorite charity. They will attend two group sessions of two hours each and a final one to one coaching session with me covering two priority items and what is standing in the way of achieving them.
This will be a rewarding experience for the participants and me. I can't wait to start it.
