Today we're taking a Virtual Day Trip to Tamarack at Beckley, West Virginia.
Tamarack is the first and only statewide collection of crafts, art, food, live performances, craft demonstrations and more. The building's unique design is based on a circular quilt pattern, some say it resembles a crown.
Everything sold at Tamarack has been voted in by a jury panel. Over 2,000 artists have their handicrafts displayed and offered for sale here. Tamarack is a unique opportunity for artists to display and sell their work in a way that honors both their creative abilities and the spirit of West Virginia. You don't just shop at Tamarack, you experience it. You can see many of the items being made right in front of you. Feel free to ask questions and give comments, the natives are friendly!
You'll find an array of books, sculptures, toys, jewelry, musical instruments, candles, ceramics, seasonal decorations, foods, hand-blown glass, outdoor decor and more. If someone can make it by hand and it's beautiful to see, you'll likely find it here. You'll notice a wide variety of prices as well. There are bargains to be found along with the serious investments. You aren't just taking home a souvenir, but a little piece of West Virginia.
The Taste of West Virginia Food Court is managed by the Greenbrier, the award winning, five star hotel at White Sulphur Springs . The specialty menu of the day will make your mouth water! Choices range from gourmet to home cooking. You'll also find plenty of homemade goodies to take home with you.
Tamarack also features a 178 seat theatre and 12,000 square foot conference center. Check for dinner theatre plays, seminars and special events such as the upcoming Bridal, Prom and Special Events Fair. There is even a playground for the kids (full of West Virginia made toys, of course!) and plenty of rocking chairs for relaxing.
Tamarack is open January through March from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM and from April to December from 8:00 to 8:00, closed Christmas day. It's located at Beckley, West Virginia near the I-77 and I-64 interchange, about 20 minutes South of the New River Gorge Bridge. In case you didn't know, that's the bridge on the back of the West Virginia state quarter, you might have one in your pocket right now. And did you know you can jump off that bridge one day a year as a part of the largest extreme sports event in the world? But that's a story for another day ...
