Paying it Forward Worldwide

Paying it forward worldwide. My world has always extended beyond our borders. We've been told that the world has grown smaller with the ease of travel to distant places and technology connecting us to one another. It's impossible to turn away from the needs of others not only when there are natural disasters but for many it is a day to day hardship to have enough to eat, a place to sleep, the opportunity to learn, and many of the things we take for granted.

International Rescue Committee

If you are still looking for a cause to donate to you might check charitynavigator.com, a web site that rates charities. It has been very helpful for me.

One of the organizations that I particularly favor is the International Rescue Committee. Through this organization we were able to provide a year of schooling for 10 children, healthy birtInternational Rescue Committeehs for 10 pregnant women, and tents to shelter four families.

Another organization that is at the forefront of natural disasters all over the world and in the midst of war zones is Doctors Without Borders. We pay it forward to this group every month of the year. The medical personnel perform amazing care to their patients in the most trying circumstances.

Fisher House is really many houses. They are located near medical facilities that provide care to wounded military personnel. This enables family members of the wounded to visit for extended periods of time. Having loved ones near increases the recovery time for many of those that have suffered horrendous mental and physical injury.

My husband suffered a stroke in March and I can no longer travel to disaster areas as a Red Cross volunteer. Paying it forward is more limited to the donations I am able to make. It is not all that I would like to do but it is what I am able to do. It is one of the reasons that I am so happy that I can continue to work in real estate. It enables me to help in these and other ways.

It is really the thought that counts. Today I saw a clean cut man walking along a free way ramp with a Starbuck Latte and a snack looking for handout. I decided against to give. He probably has a sad story to tell. But there are more needy people .....

Hello Kate -- your paying it forward attitude is admirable especially given your husband's stroke this year -- I do hope he is doing better.   Thanks for your entry.

I didn't know you used to travel to disaster areas with the Red Cross.  Wow!  That's true generosity.  Your donations in the meantime are more than a lot do.

Hi Joan...It may not be the difference I would like to make but it is what I can do. I think I'm the one that really benefits.
