Are We Going To The Dogs? An Animal Lover Tries To Sell.

Are we going to the dogs?

It seems to me that more and more people are rescuing dogs, and some of these are large, loud dogs which come across as fierce at first meeting.

Our buyers today did not want to go into a house, after being greeted by loud, barking, big dogs which were at homes on both sides of the house for sale. The main negative for the buyers, of course, was that their preschoolers might be bitten.

Everything else about the house was great..a cul-de-sac for trikes and bikes, plenty of room inside…but they just knew that living next to the dogs would be miserable.

One house had no fence; they dogs were just chained up. The other house had a low fence which appeared to be easily escapable.

This is just a vent on my part. There is absolutely nothing that can be done about people owning animals, except to implement local leash laws.

But it certainly makes it harder to sell if there are big animals in the mix.

It absolutely does affect sales.  I showed a home last month that had a loud barking dog in a fenced yard next door.  While the house showed wonderfully, the buyers didn't want to deal with the barking every time they were in the yard.  I couldn't blame them as I had that same experience with a home I owned.  Couldn't use the back yard. (don't know why that didn't bother the dogs owners as much as it bothered us)

Joan, I sent feedback about the dogs. I feel for the seller, as there is not much they can do. Most people are very protective of their pets and woudn't want to part with them even to help a neighbor sell a house.
