How Do You Respond to a Non-Real Estate Blog?

?????

Introduction to Blogging

I know this is a Real Estate platform and we exchange ideas and information across the the country and Canada, but what is the idea of this blogging platform? This is just my opinion, but I remember when I joined Active Rain and wasn't sure what a blog was really all about.  New people join Active Rain every day, not knowing what to do, or what to say.

For the most part, everyone here on Active Rain can relate to the dilemma of what to blog about.  I was told, when I started, to blog about anything, as long as it follows the guidelines of Active Rain.  A newbie may not have the skills to write an outstanding blog, but if they blog at all, it is a start.  It took me months, before I was comfortable in blogging anything other than a market report.

Blogging Material

If a new member or an experienced member chooses a subject to blog about, that is something other than Real Estate Related, why should it matter?  I have seen blogs about local businesses, recipes, vacations, family pets, favorite hobbies and the list goes on.  I think that is great!  Who wants to read about homes for sale and market reports from everyone. The diverse subject matter helps to make Active Rain and interesting place to be.  Who knows!  I may find my future favorite recipe here on a Real Estate blogging platform.  That's what makes this a great place.

How Do You Respond

Remember, Active Rain is a place where we can go to learn, play and enjoy the family we have here. Other platforms I have seen are non friendly and people seem to get a kick, by putting others down and trying to start arguments.  I don't visit that atmosphere.  So, if you read a blog on Active Rain, remember, encourage those members who have trouble writing about Real Estate everyday. As long as the members stay within the subject rules, they are participating and being included in our family.

If you can't be encouraging in your response, don't respond!

At least they are participating.  There are many members that have not participated in years.

I'm so happy this post was featured. I also like to read posts that aren't about real estate, and I've gotten some great recipes from AR. We can't all be real estate 24/7.

Thank you so much for this post! Yesterday was my first day working in real estate, and this morning, I posted my very first blog.  I received several comments that were so welcoming and encouraging.  I can't wait to become more a part of this community.

The best bloggers are the ones who provide a good look at their personality and that's not always easy to do through market reports. No matter what people say, clients don't choose agents solely on sales. If they don't care for their personality or how they present themselves, they'll move on.

Certainly, it depends on the post, yet, because you read it, it doesn’t obligate a response. There are many useful and informative posts, so, I try to surf AR every day to gain more knowledge. BTW, anything relative to real estate including information on floors, inspections, insurance, mortgages and other real estate issues about which I don't know is interesting to me.

There are many blog topics on Active Rain . . . . Over time the readership determines if the topic is worth reading.

Good luck and success.

I'm ok with any kind of blog posts. They tell us a lot about the blogger and his/her preferences.

Larry, I think we all do non-real estate related blogs at times, and they are fun too, and absolutely comment.

Excellent points by a number of ActiveRain members. Like in all blogs, there are some excellent posts on many subjects that are both interesting and informative. Others are not. Personally, I enjoy most of the posts I read.   Dave

This is very good advice for members of the ActiveRain community. Many of my blogs have nothing to do with real estate and most of the comments that I receive are kind.

Active Rain is a special place in the internet world, one of the few where rules of civility are practiced by all but a few and those few are soon gone.

I like non-real estate blogs. They make a blog more interesting and tell us more about a blogger and local communities.
