The steady stream of AR members promoting their listings seemed endless, with an occasional post of meaningful, engaging content being a somewhat rare exception.
Consumers and potential clients have a plethora of listing aggregate sites and home search platforms to choose from. Add to that the growing tide of Mobile search apps, which are all the rage these days, makes the chances of them finding your listing here all the more challenging.
Understand that I am not being critical of using ActiveRain to promote properties for sale. I, myself, use ActiveRain as one of many marketing components to achieve a strong Internet presence for my listings, and garner greater exposure for my Sellers.
However, listings are a very limited exception to the overall content I generate here. Consumers access a gazillion websites to find their next home, many that offer way more navigation features, bells, and whistles than you can shake a stick at!
The Million Dollar questions you need to ask yourself are this:
"What content can I create, what information can I share, that consumers can't find elsewhere?"
"What information can I share that would be most helpful, engaging, and valuable to their process?"
Let's face it, we're creatures of habit. We feel compelled to plaster/promote our names, our pictures, our brands, and our listings on every conceivable venue known to mankind. No vertical surface is safe!
And so it is that we jump onto a platform like ActiveRain and employ the same learned habits and practices we've always used before.
What kind of content is going to effectively attract potential clients and keep them engaged? If all they find is an endless blog-roll of listings and blatant self-promotional propaganda, you can bet they will immediately click on through to find something (or someone) of greater value.
Consistent, quality, relevant, hyper-local, geo-targeted CONTENT IS STILL KING!
