As no doubt everyone has seen, it's Raining Millennial Posts here in the Rain!
I LOVE IT ... and it might not be for the reasons you think!

Millennials  ... oh, that dreaded word.
We are "lazy, spoiled, entitled, and living in our parents basement until we are 40".
Well, OK, I did move back in with my parents a few times late into my 20's.
I had an awesome basement suite.

BUT ... we are also innovative, open-minded, optimistic,
eager, and trying to build our home in this oh so busy world.

Now for some facts ... we are over 80,000 million strong, 1/4th of the American population. We have a buying power of over $200 billion dollars. And while we may not dominate the Real Estate Markets with our money, we do heavily influence consumerism.
The business of giving you what you want ... or ... what they think you want.

So, you may be wondering ... how does this relate to my business as
a Real Estate Agent or Mortgage Professional, etc.? How do the other age groups relate?

In my next blogs I will be diving into these factors and will discuss

  • Marketing to Millennials, the Boomers (my fave!), AND GEN X/Y
  • Bridging the Gap and Marketing Across the Ages

Stay Tuned Friends!!

P.S. A special thanks to Marte Cliff and @Endre Barath Jr (sorry, it won't let me tag you!) - for the inspiring posts that opened up this line of conversation! GREAT FUN!

Those silly millenials.  I think it is difficult to generalize with any group of people.  I have seen flakiness from people over 60 and others in their 20's know exactly what they want and are ready to commit.

Hi Erin, millenials may use different methods of communication, there's definitely a great pool of them as buyers as well as sellers, for me, just listen and give exactly what they're looking for in the fashion they're expecting to receive.

Erin - Millennials will certainly have the economic and financial power in the future, as they are just so huge in numbers. Although you can't say every millennial is the same, there certainly are some differences you can generalize about any and all generations.

Erin - I have a son who is a millennial. He's hard-working, earns a great living, owns his own home, and wouldn't own a Facebook account if you paid him.

He works out every evening after spending 10 hours at a physically demanding job, and has NO patience with the people at the gym who are sitting around texting - or taking up space on the machines while talking on the phone about "hitting the gym."

In other words, he's about the opposite of everything the "experts" say a millennial is.

It really is best not to categorize people.

The Millennial generation may not be major players in real estate at the moment but in the next five years they will be. I will make sure my Brokerage, brand, and logo are constantly in their view until then!

Hi Erin - Funny - I never thought of you as a millenial. You share some personal characteristics with some earlier generations (I'm thinking of us flower children :).

Belinda Spillman - It definitely can be a bad idea to generalize, although I do think there are some generalizations that fit. But there is always an opposite force driving each force.

Beth Atalay - That's it! While there are certainly some specific marketing strategies that can be used to appeal more to certain generations, overall it is about being a good business person!

Endre Barath, Jr. - thanks for stopping by! I am working on my posts now - I actually have a class series coming up about this in the learning center at my company, so, perfect timing to share online as well! Hope you are having a great day!

Troy Erickson - love what you said about the future. Perhaps right now my generation does not dominate the Real Estate market, but certainly we will at some point, I would have to imagine. Thanks for stopping by.

Marte Cliff - your son sounds awesome! He, like a lot of us, kind of dispise the idea that technology has taken over. It is a great resource to have and use, but we have to be present as well.

Nicole Doty - Gilbert Real Estate Expert  - you are dead on and really doing what is best for your long term goals!

Dick Greenberg - Peace Man! One Love! Flower Power! Yes, perhaps I am reincarnated from Woodstock? Who knows! Good to see you my friend!

Erin Bates Yes, my son is awesome. On top of being a responsible person, he's a thoughtful and caring son. He does use his compuer for research sometimes - although he gets frustrated with that - and we use it for his bookkeeping because I convinced him that all those sorting functions make it easier. Other than that, his idea is that computers "Aren't real."

Erin- I love your post and look forward to your futures millennial posts.  Generalizations are never good, are they?!  My millennial niece and her husband will be purchasing a home soon.  They married last year and are having the time of their life!

It pays to learn as much as you can about others.  It's how we grow.
