Sandpoint Boyscout Troop 111 bring 2016 in with a splash!
While I was covering the Polar Bear Plunge in Coeur d' alene idaho Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint was snapping pictures at the one in Sandpoint Idaho. Way too cold for me but lets give a big hand to those brave souls that dipped a toe or more to start 2016 with a splash.

New Years day morning showed the stormy skies clearing. With that the winds were blowing hard. A walk with Halley left my boot prints already covered with snow on my return. My hands would go numb in the time it took to snap a picture.
I stopped in Trinity's Restaurant for a North Idaho style champagne brunch. Bisquits and gravy with a split of champagne. The view across the beach to the far Cabinet mountains was spectacular, as well as showing the hard winds blowing along the City Beach.
As I left the parking area I noticed more cars than should be, for the cold, at the far side of City Beach boat launch area. Curious I investigated. The temperature was reading in the teens on my car and that would not include wind chill.
Turns out Sandpoint Troop 111 was having their 2nd annual Polar Plunge. First speed bump was they had to break through the ice to make this possible. They hauled a jet ski down and a young gent, obviously dressed for the ocassion helped chew up the ice. Don't even ask what someone is doing with a jet ski in mid teen weather and high winds. This is North Idaho.
About 50 people did the plunge one at a time. This brave sole is getting ready to go in next. I have not put together the video yet. Trust me though when I say there must have been a spring board they were hitting when they jumped in judging by how quickly they bounced back to the ladder after coming up gasping for air.
