I am the wife of a retired law enforcement officer and what happened in Philadelphia is just plain unacceptable. This won't be a posting in regard to a new mortgage program so if that is what you were looking for, please move to the next page. This is an expression of my outrage.
Maybe you have seen the photos or the video on your evening news and you know what I am talking about. For those that don't, a Philadelphia Police Officer was driving his Philadelphia Police car down the street at 11:30 at night and an individual came up to the Philadelphia Police car shooting at the Philadelphia Police Officer that was driving the Philadelphia Police car.
The first point I want to make here is this was a human being in a Philadelphia Police Department uniform in a Philadelphia Police car driving down the street. He was not racing to a call, he was not writing a speeding ticket, he was not making an arrest; he was just driving down the street.
The individual that did this was trying to kill a Philadelphia Police Officer. There is NO mistake here. There is NO accident here. There is NO unintended consequence here. This was an outright assassination attempt. The individual was intent on executing the Philadelphia Police Officer.
When I first saw it, I immediately thought about my husband in his early career when he would just drive down the street in his Police car in a major urban city trying to protect and serve people like you and me. He wasn't there to harm people; he was there to help them. For a moment, I thought that could have been HIM ! That could have been MY husband !
I have several friends in the Rain and locally whose spouses or family members or children are Police Officers. I have clients who are Police Officers and Sheriff's Deputies. They are there for us, they represent us; they are the human beings that stand between us and the criminals.
Folks, the law enforcement officers of this country are the ONLY thing standing between us and individuals like the one that tried to kill the Philadelphia Police Officer. Gun laws DID NOT and WILL NOT stop what happened on a street in Philadelphia or in your own town.
I am sick and tired of the attacks, verbally, physically and fatally on our law enforcement personnel. We, the people, need to stand up and protect those that put their lives ahead of ours. All of us need to appreciate that law enforcement personnel protect us at home like our military does abroad.
It is time we stood behind our law enforcement and support them in what they do for us. This is NOT a political statement, that is your decision. This is NOT a religious judgement, that is your decision. This is recognition that we have a serious problem that needs to be acknowledged and addressed.
We cannot continue to sit back and watch our civilized society be destroyed by those who would attack the very human beings that work tirelessly and dangerously to protect us. Criminals need to be treated as criminals.
If you see a law enforcement officer, appreciate that they are doing the job FOR YOU ! I ask you all to say "Thank you" by your words and actions. It's time the citizens stood behind our Police and Sheriffs and said, . . . . .
Enough Is Enough,
This Has Got To STOP !
