Note To Self: KEEP FOLLOWING MY NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION!!!

The beginning of a new year is a time for all of us to reflect on what we have accomplished in the past year, and what we want to do going forward. A time to make changes in our lives for the better. To improve ourselves and our lives in positive ways.

Setting a new year’s resolution is one of the ways we can do this. But you simply cannot set a goal of a complete overhaul and expect a “new you” in three months or less! It doesn’t happen that way. That’s why most of us slip each week and finally give up the struggle by week 6, if not earlier.

Week #1, you made it through, but oh what trials and tribulations there were!

Does this sound like you? Are you already struggling to keep the goal you set for yourself? Did you             read our blog last week about setting only one goal and doing the very best you can to keep it?

Hopefully you did and you’ve managed to stay on tract so far.  If not, look at your resolutions.                     Which one is the most attainable? Which one means the most to you? Focus on it, worry about the             others once you have reached this one major goal.

Week #2
, here we are, getting ready to muster on. What can you do to keep yourself heading in the right direction to the finish line?

  • Share your goal with others
    • Join a support group or set up your own group with family, friends or co-workers. The encouragement of others going through the exact same thing you are really helps!
    • Talk to family and friends when you are struggling, they may be able to help you. If nothing else, having others to bounce ideas off of, can give you a better insight into what you need to do.
  • Take small, baby steps, each and every day
    • Don’t set your goals so high you will never attain them.
    • Example: “I will lose 10 lbs. this week.” We all know this will never work.  How about 2 lbs. each week? Or even as little as 1 lb. each week. What do you KNOW you can do!
    • Another example: “I will no longer eat fast food.” If you have a “frequent flyer” card for your closest drive through, this spells disaster. How about starting with “I will only have fast food for four meals a week, then three, then two, then one, then NONE!
    • Maybe you make the cuts every two weeks and not every week.
  •  Plan a re-check each week
    • What were your incentives for setting this goal? What did you do great this week? How did you keep on track? Are you feeling better about what you’ve accomplished so far?

DO NOT beat yourself up if you slipped during the week. We all do. It’s part of our nature, because no one is perfect! But we can do the best we can and not give up. Failure is not an option.

Hang in there, you CAN do it!

Let us know what you’ve accomplished. How are you managing? What ideas have you put in place to keep you moving forward? Share with our readers, they are working on keeping their goals, just as you are. Comment below, or send us your ideas to info@themurraymorrisgroup.com and we might add them to next week’s post.

I write my goals down.  When I look at them and read them every day, it keeps me focused.

So far, 2016 is right on track!

Thanks for the tip Fred. We may include it on our next New Years Resolution Post. Know you'll make yours if you are so focused!
