Look At What Just Spare Change Can Accomplish

Real Estate Agent with Re/Max 10 New Lenox Illinois

For over a decade shortly after South Suburban Pads served as the Lead Charity to emergency house the Katrina Hurricane Survivors, I have been serving as an Emergency Shelter Site Manager. Presently, I manage a Shelter-Site serving Men in cooperation with the St. Paul Lutheran Church Congregation providing their Gymnasium as a Shelter location at the corner of Ashland and 10th Street in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

South Suburban Pads – http://sspads.org, employ a very valued Housing team who set monthly goals to help the Guests served to find more permanent housing. I am celebrating this Valued Team placing over 15 Guests in housing in just this past month alone, so you can just imagine all the good they accomplish annually. They also issued over 19 housing referrals to the Department of Housing through their Outreach-Worker program this past month. The Interns worked tirelessly to insure every child in the Housing program received toys, coats, and basic needs as holiday gifts.

Serving also on the Pads Board is rewarding in endeavors to end Homelessness.

If you are a Landlord, please consider working with the Pads Housing Staff. Every participant goes through a thorough Housing Workshop, so they are prepared to be good Tenants, and you get the benefit of communicating with our Housing Staff on any problem solving needed. http://sspads.org

I am most proud to share the Pads Country Club Hills Wellness Center (CCHWC) currently has over an 96% occupancy rate, with over 86 adults and over 41 children residing. I applaud the efforts of Pads-CCHWC Case-Management Team. The CCHWC Tenants get to participate in Life Building Skills workshops hosted by Pastor George Kimbrough. Pads also employ an Employment-Specialist who host twice-weekly Employment Workshops for the CCHWC Residents, with Resident-participants benefiting on referrals when they make appointments for individual sessions. This resourceful team has helped over 36 Residents gain employment, and ongoing employment training is available to every Resident.

Another In-house valuable service is the Residents have access to Dr. Mendenhall, OMPH in coordination with the Pads-CCHWC Case Workers assessing any mental health needs.

The Respond-Now food pantry program helps over 54 households. Chef Kareem continues to host culinary classes, giving vital teachings on cooking healthy meals within their budget.

In addition to helping every Resident to establish goals, the Pads Staff daily connect them to local resources.

Thanks Hillcrest Baptist Church for hosting a holiday party in December for all the CCHWC Residents, and South Suburban Pads Network of Guests serving over 100 with food, games, carols, and holiday crafting. Even Mr. and Mrs. Claus attended blessing all with gifts to make for a magical event.

Pads serves in another program housing over 5 families, with all the Adult participants having a verified source of income. Grateful to the S.M.I.L.E for Change, a Faith-based group who also hosted a Christmas Dinner and toy giveaway at the New Community Church in Dolton, with these families given gifts from the Employees of South Suburban Hospital. These participants are fully engaged in case-management services, employment services, healthcare services, educational needs, and vital life-coaching to accomplish better and greater self-determination to maintain residential stability.

Won’t you consider helping to fund these programs helping all the people served to practice the necessary life skills needed to remain stably housed? You would be amazed at what just your spare change can do. Please consider donating extra change or even $1, $5, $10, or $20 c/o of the Chief Financial Officer’s Office of South Suburban Pads, 4411 W Gatling Boulevard, Country Club Hills, Il 60478.

Applauding the Cook County Assessor’s Office for donating Christmas gifts to over 3 families.

The Pads Homeless Prevention/Rapid-Rehousing program call center is generating an average of over 23 rental assistance screening. The Staff housed over 2 Families and Individuals this past month. The funds for this program is nearly exhausted. Won’t you please consider the amazing impact of your spare change? Please consider donating extra change or even $1, $5, $10, or $20 c/o of the Chief Financial Officer’s Office of South Suburban Pads, 4411 W Gatling Boulevard, Country Club Hills, Il 60478.

Pads also recommends Guests for the WCHANCE program where they are considered for the FLOW-voucher, a Tenant based voucher through the Housing Authority of the County of Cook. Pads would very much like to expand who benefits from this program. They are Individuals identified as chronically homeless/most vulnerable based on a technology tool used called the VI-SPADT Assessment, Vulnerability Index and Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool. Pads Staff daily outreach to Clients on the list for placement, a population hardest to house.

The well-trained Staff uses motivational interviewing techniques to help get eligible participants positioned for placement in housing.

The Pads Network of Shelters (please visit the http://sspads.org site to see all the locations) are all experiencing being filled near to capacity. Please consider investigating whether your Congregation could possibly serve a Shelter-Site. The South Suburban Pads Network of Shelter-Sites currently have a big need for Wednesday and Friday nights.

All the Shelter-Guests have an opportunity to participate in the Pads-RAPID-WISH program, currently serving over 17 participants, with the Case-Workers helping them to get successfully housed.

The Pads-WIN-SUPPORTIVE-HOUSING-PROGAM helps VETERANS and Families get into housing. There are still slots available for VETERANS and Families with a disability.

Won’t you again set aside just your spare change to insure VETERANS and Families classified as chronically homeless will get the help to obtain better health through the Housing Collaborative? Again, thanks for allowing me to make this special plea for you to please consider donating extra change or even $1, $5, $10, or $20 c/o of the Chief Financial Officer’s Office of South Suburban Pads, 4411 W Gatling Boulevard, Country Club Hills, Il 60478.

Your immediate attention and kind consideration is so appreciated. There is an old saying that goes like this this, “what good you make happen for others will surely be made to happen for you.” Thanks
