Aerial Photography

By

Getting ready to list a great home on a double lot and lots of landscaping.  No street level photo will capture this house.  I have great photography expertise on our team but nothing for elevated photography. So my bright idea is to buy a drone and got soundly shut down from team members.  I know my ActiveRain can enlighten me on this. Do any of you use drones and, if so, are there special rules, licenses, recommendations you can share?

There are many new rules for operating drones for commercial purposes. Check update on FAA website. Other options would be an actual aerial photographer. Occasionally someone will use a cherry picker for elevated photos. Or if someone can get on the roof you might be able to capture most of what you want. Or,check companies sell aerial photos. Google earth? County website?

Cynthia,
If the drone doesn’t work, talk to the local rental equipment yard about renting a “cherry picker.” Probably cheaper than buying a drone. Some local amateur photographer will go up in the cherry picker and take the pictures for free or cheap.

Cynthia, agreed - some properties can only be photographed the best by air, and with a drone, just be sure to get it registered.  Welcome to ActiveRain!

I am going to price some drones.  Corinne Guest uses Phamtom 3 Pro and I looked that up on Amazon.  Those are over $1,000 but I see there are drones under $100.  I need to get much more educated as to the right one to buy.  I was thinking a couple of hundred dollars so the price of the Phamtom 3 Pro shocked me.

Hi, Cynthia...I know there are a lot of regulations about using drones. I wouldn't let that discourage you, though.

I think Larry Johnston is using one. He might be a good resource for you.

Hi Cynthia

I think it's a great idea and a couple of people have provided some good suggestions, and Corine's photo is a great example. Perhaps the easiest solution is to hire a company that done drine work so you do not take on the liability, etc.
